From Shanesy:
@TerrierTracker: Wofford got huge commitment from PG Derrick Brooks of Bartow, Fla. He had 20-plus offers, including Auburn, canceled visit Friday to UMass.

Checked out Brooks on Rivals. Three Stars! Pretty amazing stuff for Wofford. Congrats to Coach Young and his staff.

Apparently Brooks is talented, especially on defense - the kind of hard-nosed (but well grounded) player from which good teams are made. A very nice addition.

We really need a post player. Like this guy who visited this past weekend as well.

We got a big commitment yesterday. 6'7" power forward Cameron Jackson from Va. Looks like he had verballed or informally committed to Citadel at some point but now has changed his mind. Big body. Exactly what we needed.

Thanks Ruckus, great news. Apparently Jackson visited when Brooks visited, and he wanted to stay with Brooks. Also, has already bonded with our "inside coach", Tim Johnson. He may be closer to 6-6, but growing, and the word is he needs to become more active. A relatively raw talent with a huge upside; great attitude. We should be good this season and even better next season.

Bringing in good talent that will sign in the early period is key. There are talented guys in the late period, but much better to have people in place rather than having to hope to uncover hidden gems.

The next key thing is to keep guys on campus. We've lost some over the last few years, but it seems like we are back on track.

Good articles on Cameron Jackson, our recruit for the big position, and Derrick Brooks, recruit at guard. Two excellent players.

I like this quote from the article on the Brooks kid:

"Also Brooks states the manor in which Wofford pursued him really stood out…."

A new addition to the campus, evidently.

I am excited about these two recruits. It sounds like Mike Young landed two solid players that will really help this program. Guys that's can keep us in the hunt for conference titles and NCAA appearances. I feel like a fool for ever having doubted Mike Young. He is doing a great job.

And as far as the transfers I complained about in the past, it seems more and more that perhaps they were for the best. We have a team full of guys who want to be at Wofford and are fully committed to the style of play we have- defense and team first! I really hope the new guys are as well. Since they signed during the early period, I have to believe they are.

Don't forget about the transfer we are picking up from Evansville. Sounds like he's played both 4 and 5 there, so happy to be getting some players down low.

Any information on Wofford's recruits? Three new players coming in, right? Two freshmen and a transfer who will be eligible in January 2015, if I'm not mistaken?

Are there other scholarships available? I would guess another shooting guard or a tallish wing would be a priority…..or big guys -- always big guys.
