Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went to the NCAA tourney two years ago, but following that run, their coach, Ronnie Arrow, left to go to South Alabama when John Pelphrey left there to go to Arkansas. I'm not sure if they are still good, but I'd imagine the inertia of a NCAA berth has kept them fairly competitive.

But here's the real question...

Which is better, doing nothing, or conducting a "national search"?

The only way we're looking for a new basketball coach is if we are also looking for a new athletic director.

It doesnt matter as nothing will ever be done in my lifetime....unless the coach "resigns" or "retires" to take another job in the athletic department.

Is it too much to ask for to have a competitive basketball team once every 5 to 10 years? Compete for an SOCON title?

I know this argument has gone on a while and may continue to.....But it is funny/odd to me that there's all this call for a coaching change just after Wofford College took the University of Georgia to overtime in a basketball game.

Wow.

It would be funny if you consider a singular performance against a major opponent the measure of our program. The performace is there in the games we shouldn't have a chance/have nothing to lose in. It's the conference games where we seem to have a problem. Like last year, we beat Purdue, but the start losing by 20+ to middle of the pack SoCon teams. I'd rather lose by 20+ to the ACC and SEC and be a contender in the SoCon because that would be a truer measure of success for our program.

Well, Eyes...I guess that's what I'm saying -- why this discussion NOW? If you guys want to hit that topic at some point when we know how this year's Wofford teams competes in the SoCon, then that's a different matter....as I think you're suggesting. But why this discussion is necessary after Wofford takes UGA to overtime is odd to me.

At this point, we're 0-1 in the SoCon. A close game against ASU. I like that our team so far seems to play hard and play together. I hope it will translate into a solid win-loss record.

Then I guess where we differ is in our expectations for conference play. You think the jury is still out, I expect the SoCon thrashings to continue. Hopefully I'm wrong, but experience tells me otherwise.

Maybe that makes me negative and/or a fairweather fan, but in my mind I have just about seen enough and am tired of excuses. If this season devolves into another excuse-fest, then I will become very vocal. I don't care about injuries or circumstances anymore because we, as Wofford fans, have collectively been more than patient enough so far.

Again, I hope I'm wrong and the corner has been turned, but I just don't have enough faith left to get excited until I see more.

In fact, the jury IS still out on this season. That's all I'm saying. IF there comes a time for a discussion based on this year's play in the Southern Conference, then that'll happen in time. I just think now isn't a logical time to get into it.....the jury, in fact, being out and all that.
