Interesting that on the PGA website McGirt has been the first alternate for the past 3 days. He should get in, however, since they are holding 2 spots for the winners of the two events this week. If either of the winners is otherwise qualified for the PGA he is in; and if anyone withdraws by the 5PM Friday deadline he is in. Pretty good chance he will make it. Pull for a "name" winner in the events!

At Firestone, it would be hard to bet against 7 time winner, Tiger Woods. Which would be great for William.
Kiawah is going to be a beast next week.

"Dirt" in New England!

William will play the Deutche Bank event Labor Day weekend at the TPC course (near Boston.) I am going and invite any member of Terrier/McGirt Nation to meet/help support our guy. We can even coordinate rallying at a watering hole.

If considering combining a trip to Boston and watching the tourney, note the Red Sox are out of town that weekend. Travel from the Hub to Mansfield (course) is about 45 minutes.

Thoughts?

Was just looking at the Reno-Tahoe leaderboard and it took me a moment to realize they are using the Modified Stableford scoring. Pulling for Harrington or Daly to win right now. Furyk on top at the Bridgestone also good.

It appears the only one who could stop McGirt from getting into the PGA would be Lee Slattery, who is 9 back of Furyk and the only one anywhere near the lead (if 9 back is near the lead) who is not already in the PGA. He's at Kiawah, according to John Macginnis on the PGA radio site, and has played several practice rounds. His tee time will be last off either #1 or #10 if he fills one of the spots saved for the winners of the the two tour events. I plan to be at the Wyndham the week after the PGA to see "Dirt" and cheer on a fellow Terrier. He has committed, but I guess there is a chance he could WD since he is now in the FedEX events. Seems to me that the FedEx Cup takes a week off during the playoffs, so he wouldn't have to play that many weeks in a row. I know he gets tired, but when you are playing well I would imagine you can't wait to get out there. I want to hear from some Wofford folks who are going to be at Kiawah.

Boulder, thanks for the info. There is a new article in the Herald-Journal that echoes everything you write and adds that he had planned to take 2 weeks off to rest but the PGA changed his plans. 8)

I know of a couple of Wofford folks who will be at practice rounds. Will make sure they report back.

William tees off tomorrow at 2:30pm in the penultimate group of the day. Looking at the weather forecast it looks like it will be a little windier in the afternoon with the chance of some isolated T-storms.

At his indirect request to me, I will retire the nickname "Dirt". If he doesn't like it, neither do I.

William made a great comeback at the end of the round completed nearly in the dark. All in all, considering the last position starting time and the worst of today's conditions, a great first round in a major! Go low in the morning, William.

Was thinking the same thing. Hopefully he will have less wind tomorrow morning when he tees off at 9:20am. He will start on #10.

http://www.goupstate.com/article/201208 ... ajor-debut Good article.

He will be in Greensboro at the Wyndham next week. He is familiar with that course and it sets up well for his game, so hopefully he can get back on track.
