The Terrier's Volleyball team played in a tournament at Clemson today, winning against William & Mary this morning. Tonight they played Clemson, and lost in five sets. However, they played great; even having Clemson at several match points in the fourth set before losing 29-27. Our ladies played a solid, gutty tournament, serving notice that they will be a team with heart and confidence. Well done, ladies!

Team defeated App. State 3 sets to 2 this morning in Boone...now 2-3. Nice road win for this young squad...always good to beat ASU in any sport. The ladies play UNC-Wilmington later today.

Big win over Wake Forest in a tournament tonight. Tomorrow matches against Charlotte and High Point. Great work, ladies.

First win ever over an ACC team. http://woffordterriers.com/news/2016/9/ ... t-3-2.aspx

Winning a close hard fought game like this will give us a lot of confidence.

They beat Charlotte this morning but lost to High Point, again, tonight. High Point beat them earlier in the season. We should be competitive in the Socon, with some freshmen playing significant roles. Next year they will be in their own NEW place that should attract teams from all over to our campus.

High Point must have a very good team. Overall we have played a tough non-conference schedule to get us ready for the SoCon and so far we have posted a winning record of 7-6. So things are definitely looking up for this program, especially considering its youth. And with the aforementioned new arena, a bright future is ahead.

The young team dropped a close, hard fought match to USC Upstate tonight in five sets 3-2. There have been a number of close five set losses this season. This was a particularly disappointing loss as we were up 2 sets to 1 and every game was close (we lost the fourth set 29-27, where a win would've earned us the match). And heck, it's Upstate, and I wouldn't want to lose a game of beer pong to those folks. But this program is way ahead of where it once was and is getting better and still learning how to close out games. Next up is the conference opener against UNCG at home on Friday evening.

The conference season is off to an inauspicious start as we were soundly defeated by UNCG at home 3-0. The team will likely struggle some in conference play the way it looks (three other SoCon schools easily beat USC Upstate, whom we lost to, along with this result, is how I draw that conclusion). The team has improved a lot, but still is very much a work in progress and still has a way to go to be a winner in the SoCon. Scholarships aren't the problem here; thus program is fully funded due to Title IX. It's just that when the better volleyball players have decided where to go to school, Wofford hasn't usually been in the discussion for whatever reason. I do think that's slowly starting to change. And the team is young and the coach deserves more time to build the program. Maybe the new volleyball venue opening next year will help too.

I am happy to say that, at least for tonight, I was wrong about us struggling in conference play. We picked up a huge gutsy win against a very good Mercer team in five sets tonight. To rebound from a tough night and win a game like this says a whole lot about these girls. Great job tonight.

These young gals are showing mental toughness. Beat a decent WCU team 3-0. http://woffordterriers.com/news/2016/10 ... esday.aspx

Now 3-1 in conference.

This young team continues to take giant steps forward. The right coach was obvious hired. Yes, there have been a few tough nights, but D-1 competition is very tough and this program had a ways to go. With the new arena opening and the team continuing to learn and mature, I look for good things going forward.

Actually, right now the team sits in second place in the conference, just one game back of ETSU. This is by far our best season in the SoCon.

The ladies defeated Chattanooga 3 sets to 1. The Mocs swept us in three straight sets earlier this season. Great victory to go to 8-6 in conference.
