Ladies lost to Charlotte. Really cooled off on offense but did reduce turnovers.https://woffordterriers.com/boxscore.as ... ll&id=4392

Apparently working on different rotations, especially at guard.

Nine of our future games this season are on ESPN3; several more on ESPN+.

Last year injuries were used as an excuse. What is the excuse this year? A loss to PC is a dreadful result in ANY sport. I wouldn’t want to lose to them in a game of Simon Says. For whatever the reason this program just can’t make any kind of significant progress. But I would guess that the reason is that while we are getting some wonderful young women for the program, they just aren’t as good at basketball as what most other teams in our conference are getting.

I think it is way too early to be pessimistic WG. We have only one senior, who is also our only proven rebounder, and are trying to find the best combinations with so many first and second year players. That, plus the fact that we just had one of those horrible shooting nights that all teams and players have on rare occasions, even Wanink. We will improve. I think coach’s goal is to have a good rotation settled upon by the time we play our conference schedule. Developing chemistry requires some time, but much improved talent is there.

ld i could not agree more. One game does not make a season. And I would not be surprised that this year is much the same as years past. Simply because we have a lot of freshmen playing regularly and that has to create issues with chemistry and those same freshmen make mistakes. With time this group should be much better. It may happen this year but maybe not. We have to be patient. Garrity IMHO has done a good job recruiting but it takes time for his recruits to take effect. Rome was not built in a day. Go Terriers !!!

I posted the above before the CofC game. Now this is about the CofC game. Even though we handled them I still think this could be a trying year with some disappointments. But hopefully we gel early and continue to improve, eliminating mistakes. If that happens we have a chance for a good year. But one game does not make a season whether it is a W or an L. So at this point we just have to wait and see what happens. Actually expressing the outlook in terms of a percentage I would guess that we have a 50% chance of having a good season. https://woffordterriers.com/news/2018/1 ... 78-58.aspx

Go Terriers !!!!

Today (as RT mentions above) we beat College of Charleston by 20 at home. Booker, Turner, Bayer, McDavid and Grob had good games. Wanink (4 steals) and Green are working to develop synergy; each is a fine player. We showed much better defense and rebounding, which must always be a hallmark. Somewhat better shooting but needs to improve. Good depth. We have generally played better at home, like most teams; must get better on the road.

Play Winthrop Tues. at 6 at home, ESPN+. Need to win it.

Beat Winthrop by 17. Better D, rebounding, and 3 pt. shooting. Fresh legs.

Ice cold shooting, poor D and rebounding cost us a 14 point loss vs. UNCA. As with most young teams, this one is inconsistent. The good news we have the talent and depth to play much better every night, IF we can get more consistent, hopefully before long. Need to bring it EVERY night.

correct ld. learn to win on the road for one thing. the talent is there. Wanink scored - what was it 35 against Clem ? - 4 against UNCA. But you cannot expect a shooter to do it every night. A shooter will have off nights at times. Eventually they will figure it out though as a team. The one glaring thing that stood out was that UNCA scored 45 of their 60 points from turnovers and fast breaks. When the lady terriers get the turnover bug squashed they will be a much better team. couple that with better rebounding and shooting.

Impressive: Carman, only a Fr., is SoCon POW! Fearless. https://woffordterriers.com/news/2018/1 ... -week.aspx

GWU Nov. 29 7 pm.

Down by 5 at half, shooting very poorly again, rebounding well.

Ladies came back at home from 5 down at half to beat GWU by six. GWU is pretty good, with a win at Florida. Our shooting was poor again, but our D better. Strong rebounding and FT shooting saved us. Gritty effort by the ladies. Improve to 3-0 at home, 1-4 away.

Nice win...sounds like the girls really battled. This is a game we could have easily lost and would have lost several years ago so we are improving...even if it is a slow improvement.

Fr. Mary Martha Turner is making a valuable contribution. She had six rebounds in 14 minutes vs. GWU, and is a defensive presence inside. McDavid had a double double and infused valuable energy before fouling out. Booker had some nice hustle plays. We are getting scrappier; to go only 1-11 from 3 pt. and still beat GWU says something.
