New Coach

Wofford announced earlier this morning that Jimmy Garrity will be the new women's basketball head coach. Garrity had been the head coach at D-II Anderson University since 2013. His team went 23-7 and won a game in the D-II tournament last season, and has posted a combined record of 50-12 the previous two years.

I haven't followed the WBB program very closely, but it seems a coaching change is nothing but positive...

Looks like an excellent hire. For over a dozen years he has had increasing opportunity, and success, at NC State, UNCW, Clemson, and Anderson. He has been an active program administrator and recruiter of good players, and is very experienced on the bench. Would not be surprised to see a significantly better team his first year with us. Thoughts?

I'm far from an expert on coaching or basketball, but I do have some experience in identifying leaders and it appears to me that Coach Johnson has hired a great leader for our program. Wins may not immediately come in this building process, but I predict a new enthusiasm and new culture for Wofford women's basketball that ultimately should lead to increased success. Welcome to Wofford, Coach Garrity, and best of luck.

I can't remember my first impression of anybody in recent memory being more positive than Coach Garrity. He seems the perfect choice as a coach and I cannot imagine anyone being a better fit. Ok sometimes I exaggerate but I don't feel like I am doing that now. Really looking forward to WBB in Terrier land. And with JRIS coming soon it will be even more exciting.

http://www.goupstate.com/article/201604 ... um=twitter Good story. This quote caught my attention: “Small steps. We're going to win a drill and celebrate. We're going to win a practice and celebrate."

I like this hire a lot. I watched him speak and he was most impreesive to me. We hired a winner and I think this guy will make our program better.

I agree. Seems like a quality guy who knows the game and is a winner.
I love the comment about winning a drill, then a practice and then a game etc.
He gets it.
Best of luck to him and his staff.
