Ladies won a hard fought and exciting game to win by about 10, finishing 12-17 and 5-15 in conference. It was my only chance to see them this year. I was impressed that they play hard and well together. We are savvy but atheticism and team quickness could improve.http://athletics.wofford.edu/news/2012/ ... 22403.aspx

We only lose one senior, with five juniors coming back plus one soph. and two freshmen. After the game I spoke with a gentleman who was at the game with his daughter. His daughter is a top student and player from Winston Salem, and had numerous offers but chose Wofford for next year because she really liked it and the academic and sports opportunity. He is already a big fan, attending two football games this year. Apparently we have signed a talented class of five for next year. This is one of the best and most successful teams the ladies have had, and next year should be better.

Observations: 1. We rely too heavily on the outside shot. Motley needs some help inside. Merritt and Kirby, the two frosh, have the size and could provide a lot of help next year IF they work hard on their quickness, agility and inside moves and comfort level. Hopefully we will also recruit some inside players who can help early. 2. We have some experienced guards, but really need to cut down on the turnovers and get better at bringing it up against pressure. Hopefully a freshman can help here too. Our inbounds play is too iffy and needs to be tightened up; UNCG caused big problems here late in the game. 3. We need to get better at creating our shot. We play pretty creatively as a team at times, but hopefully will get better at having a player or two work for layups or short jumpers and create more easy baskets for teammates. The recruit from Winston Salem sounds like she may be able to help here.

Any win is a good win. It is especially nice heading into the tournament. We have to be honest though. The last half of the season wasn't as good as the first half. While this might be the best team in a while they could have finished stronger. That aside they have demonstrated that they can beat the best in the SoCon and I expect them to beat CofC.

I agree with your observations. I would only add that the point play could be a little quicker. The ball moves too slowly and often allows the opposing defense to recover from off balance situations. We really won't know how strong the incoming class is until they step on the court. I do view it as beneficial that practically all the existing talent is returning. It will be an advantage for the new members to be surrounded by experience.

But enough on next year - I expect the ladies to win the first game against the Cougars. I suspect the Cougars feel that way also. They know they were lucky to win the first two games. I truly believe that CofC didn't win the games but that Wofford lost them. After that victory who knows. One thing is for certain; these ladies have proven they can play by beating the likes of Davidson and Samford. They shouldn't be taken lighlty. Go Lady Terriers!
