For any of you who happen to be along the Redneck Riveria (Grand Strand), men's soccer will play at Coastal Carolina Saturday at 4. This is the 2nd of 2 scrimmages before kicking off the regular season. I plan to brave the heat and attend, along with my boys. Should hopefully be a good game. CCU normally has a very competitive futbol team. Would like to think it will be a good test for the men.

Took in part of the exhibition game that was marred by lightning delays. They played almost the entire first half before the first delay. Players came back onto the pitch to warm up, then another delay. We left at that point as the weather appeared to be turning farther south.
We played fairly well against a pretty much evenly matched CCU team. We were down 1-0 when we left. The goal that CCU scored was on a devensive error and mishandling of the ball. We seemed to have the advantage in possession, and had a couple of great opportunities: one off the crossbar and another that landed in the top of the net. Our midfielders played very well and had great touch with the ball. Our forwards made great runs into open space to be fed the ball. Our defense played fairly well. They tend to cover for one another exceptionally well, but did have a few moments where they let CCU forwards make runs thru the gaps and were on the wrong side of the opposition. Our center defender is a fearless stud. Keeper played very well and the goal that was scored was by no means his fault....nothing he could do about the situation in which he was put. Our biggest problem is that there seemed to be many times in which we didn't attach a 50/50 ball and played back on our heels. A little more aggressiveness could have given us a few more opportunities rather than putting a strain on the midfielders and defense. We defended the corners well and played pretty physical in the middle of the field. I feel we will do very well in the regular season as long as we play cohesivelyas we did today.

Thanks for the detailed report, Big John. Our men's soccer team (women too, to a lesser degree) is so superior to what it was just a few short years ago.

Lost to a UNCG team that had come into the match winless at 0-7-1. What an unpleasant surprise. We need to offset that by upsetting Furman in the next match.

I watched the game on the SoCon network. Our guys clearly outplayed UNCG, but just didn't get the breaks. We are a good team. Just need to keep plugging away until it turns.

Wofford 2 - #24 Purple Pukes 0
Ist time in over 7 games that the Barnies have been scored on, and Aurednik did it twice in about 6 minutes.
