Congratulations to Coach Ralph Polson!

At the January 2012 convention of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America - with 30,000 members at all levels the largest soccer coaching association in the world - Wofford Coach Ralph Polson will accept a one-year term as president. This is a tremendous honor for Coach Polson and for Wofford. Under Coach Polson, Wofford's credibility in men's soccer has risen dramatically, with a SoCon championship and NCAA tourney appearance in 2009. The team is winning its share against good competition, and playing tough matches against all comers, a major improvement over past years. Parenthetically, we were reminded recently that there is championship soccer talent in the southeast, when UNC won the national title, defeating Charlotte in the finals; both teams have many Carolina-area high school grads on their rosters.

We lost to the this year's national champion UNC Tar Heels 1-0 at Snyder Field this year. Don't know if they will ever come back as their coach complained that our field was too narrow. I think he was just upset at all the long throw-ins that kept his back 4 and goal keeper nervous the entire game.

It is great that RP will be leading the NSCAA this year. It will be great PR for Wofford. He has also put together the strongest recruiting class to date with 7 verbals. With the strength of last years class, the future looks bright for the program.
