Mercer beating Samford this early is huge in the league. Mercer is strong, and they deserved this win. They are going to be a tough win for any conference team. As for Samford, the way to beat them is to keep it away from them. They kicked a very late field goal to get within a score. Mercer did a great job of knowing HOW to beat them. Great film for us.

While we are not playing this weekend, there are some interesting games that will go toward shaking out which teams will be league factors-and in a couple of cases which teams have folded.

Wow !! What a day for the SoCon and there are still two games left to complete. Western and VMI had a barn burner with VMI coming out without the W although they were the better team IMHO. Score WCU 52-50. Cit edged out Mercer 38-31. Chatt now leading Sam 10-0.

Also GWU got blasted by App St 72-7. I wonder how will that affect their game with us

Mocs hold on against Samford despite Chattanooga's best attempts to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with their ridiculous prevent defense that generated zero pass rush. And the ESPN+ production value for UTC was miserable so at least it's not just a Wofford problem...

ETSU overcomes a 21-point deficit in the second half to beat Furman, 29-27. Wow! What an interesting day in the SoCon!

We should have a lot of film on all teams we haven’t played. Like our position.

Parenthetically, winless ODU beat #13 Va. Tech; ODU statistically had 1.8 % chance to win ... largest upset in college football in ten years.

NC A&T’s 15-game win streak came to an end at the hands of winless Morgan State ... they will no doubt tumble from their #4 FCS ranking.

Am enjoying watching Air Force beautifully and crisply execute the option vs. Utah State ... close game.

13, it sounds like you watched the Chatty win on Saturday night. Are they for real? They have a couple of league wins and are in a pretty good position.

I only saw the 4th quarter on and by then, UTC was playing not to lose and going with a prevent defense that was generating zero pass rush so tough to tell. Samford had quite a few turnovers (4-1) and yet still outgained UTC by a good amount. My gut reaction is UTC is decent enough that when they caught Samford on an off night, they were able to capitalize on the opportunity. I think Wofford is the better team and would win a majority of the matchups if this were a playoff series but, on any given Saturday, if we're sloppy and put the ball on the turf, Chattanooga could definitely beat us like they just beat Samford.

Chattanooga is a pass-first offense (not to be confused with an air raid) with a very tough defense, that's probably one of the most athletic teams (if not the most athletic team) in the Socon.

Being pass-first is our weakness. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, so we should be cautious.

This poll puts us 7 in the country, but another puts us 18 and Chatt 5! The SoCon and FCS have a lot of shaking out to do; we cannot get cocky vs. anyone. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/ ... fcs-top-25

This is essentially the poll that Stats/FCS uses. McLaughlin tweeted that he thought the SoCon winner would have 2 league losses. I would like for our guys to prove him wrong. However, the pre-season favorite legitimately can't afford to lose another game. We need to use this week to tune up for a tough league run to November.
It still gives me a chuckle that Wofford doesn't move much above the #6 or #7 position regardless. This weekend I believe ND St and SD St are playing-that's #1 vs #3-so there will be some movement there. It would be hard to see ND St or JMU being anything other than #1 and #2, but below that there is no reason why a SoCon team (and we hope it is us) can't move into the top 5. Sam Houston State was very highly rated like A&T and they went down easily as well. R-E-S-P-E-C-T (or was it respict?) is something that our league is lacking and would like to reestablish.

Not sure where this post belongs, but Samford will play Youngstown State in the FCS Kickoff game next year. This year A&T beat Jacksonville St at JSU in a very sloppy game. Glad the SoCon will be represented. Maybe one year we will play in the opener.

Watching the Wofford game on TV while trying to listen to what radio reception comes through-but following the gamecast of the ETSU/Chatty game. ETSU, leading by 14-0 just drove the field and had a first and goal but failed to score. They are pounding Chatty pretty badly, but that score can easily be overcome. 17-0 ETSU at the half. Wow.
