Founded and built a tradition of scholar athletes who laid it on the line every week and competed hard, the right way. His legacy is the hundreds of young men who are living honorable and productive lives, thanks in large part to his influence. Thank you sir.

Not sure if this has otherwise been reported, but I didn't see it so if it's a duplicate then forgive me, but according to David Marvin's Twitter feed Wofford will be naming the field at Gibb Stadium after Coach Ayers this fall.

This is absolutely appropriate and I am 100% behind this move. Kudos to the College and the Athletic Department for permanently honoring Coach Ayers.

Now, while they are at it they still need to do something about the fact that there is not a large gold 7 on a white masonry base in the vicinity of the base of the video board.

There are a number of us who would like to surround him on the field to do one last "Hambone."

I believe that would be absolutely appropriate under the circumstance.

This article by Todd was in the Spartanburg HJ today. It is beautifully written, and tells a little of the story of what Mike Ayers has meant to Wofford and vice versa. However, it doesn't say a lot about the timing of Coach deciding to retire. He was coming off of a couple of seasons in which he came a gnat's rear end of having two players die on the field; and yet carrying on to coach his teams to playoff seasons. He quit on top, leaving the program in solid shape, with a cupboard not half full, but completely full for the next coach. Not many do that in sports. To say "thanks, coach" seems somehow to be so little. "Great" is such an overused word, but we were so blessed to have this great man lead our premier sports program for so many years.

The half time presentation was extremely classy, and deservedly so ... very touching. I believe our team was pumped by the Ayers tribute. They sorely wanted a win for the old ball coach.

If anyone can get their hands on the halftime video I’d love to watch it again.

You guys who played for the man will always be able to call on some of his wisdom and antics. All great coaches are mimicked, but few of those doing the impersonations were caught and live to tell it. I know there are some great stories that, as time goes by, will be told.

ld thank you for sharing that video. What a great person he is. That is a good video and I enjoyed it. I am assuming that IWF is not out yet because they are trying to include the half time dedication and they are trying to make sure it is as good as it can be because it is a special moment.
