spring scrimmage 2018

Postby youngterrier on Sat Feb 24, 2018 4:05 pm

so looking at the posts by Shanesy, some photos and interviews with players, it sounds like there's been some overhaul and new energy.

I don't know how many RPOs we ran last year, if any at all, but it sounds like we're installing some.

Most notably, the players said we passed more today than we ran on offense. *That* interests me.

Anybody make it to the scrimmage?

Defense played base 50/2 deep all day. No calls installed yet. So offense had the advantage. I like the RPO additions but I think we need to stretch the defense too with our passing game. 9 in the box cuts down on the angles.
Lots of guys being held out. We are mighty thin at RB and will be next year as well.

While UPs are never desirable, take this with a grain of salt: spring scrimmage, who knows about ref quality, always some trash talking among teammates.....doesn’t necessarily indicate a problem. Sounds like to me we were getting after it which is a good thing. Coaches are closely monitoring play.

This must have been after the last spring practice on Tuesday. I am encouraged by JC when he said that they were so far along that during the last few practices they started working on stuff that they did not expect to get to until the fall. So glad that Devin Watson is ok mostly for him but for the team too. http://www.goupstate.com/news/20180313/ ... g-practice

It's not that surprising to me that they're incorporating things early. We have a pretty mature bunch.
