Something I just noticed: We have 0 senior OL on the team this year (at least seniors in terms of eligibility).

We also have quite a few DL, with Horton redshirting this year, Mangum will be the only senior DL next year as well. This year Zamary and Brown are the only senior DL.

the only position that has a lot of seniors on it is the secondary. We're a young team, but you wouldn't know it this year.

YT, don't you think that is because of the caliber of players we have recruited in recent years? We seem to have more fresman and underclassmen ready to go earlier, and they get on the field at a younger age. Next year, for example, we seem to have a bunch of good recruits who may be able to play right out of high school.

This year's senior class (Watson, etc) were probably the first to see significant time as lower class men. Ayers et all had a change of philosophy.

Remember Chris Armfield, all conference corner for us? He quit his fifth year because he wasn't on the two deep.

It seems we have pivoted as a program to favor depth and more development in game situations. I could be wrong though.

These days having good depth is as important as having a great starting team. It seems that to beat good teams, you have to keep your players fresh, because otherwise the other team, with depth, will wear you down. It is good for morale too because it lets more players contribute.

You're not wrong at all YT. It has become so obvious that our present coaching staff is using depth in so many ways. When it was so hot we had to have the subs. I would expect to see lots of subs this weekend to chase the QB all over the field. They have especially been very careful not to wear out some backs-especially Stoddard-to keep them fresh to be able to pound in the fourth quarter. Even on the offensive line we are trying to substitute when we can. I hope Saturday our wide receivers are substituted frequently and run the Samford DB's ragged.
Is it possible that the growth of the college from 1,000 up to our current 1,600+ has helped this? I know we are limited in scholarships and were regardless of our size, but just wonder if that has helped. If so, the possibility of a rise to 2,000 should be interesting as well.

I'm seeing per Shanesy on Twitter that Wilson had decommitted and is possibly looking at Coastal Carolina. Stuff like this is clearly the downside of all the early commitments as opposed to the close to the vest stuff that we used to see (although I am convinced that some of that was that decisions weren't made as early then).

Verbal commitments aren't really commitments, more like politician promises.

Is early signing still December 20 this year ? That is just around the corner. Can't wait. Hope there are some surprises. Surprises in recruiting would be like a super nice unexpected Christmas present.

Amazing how much the Air Force program has fallen since our Wofford grad retired. And just a few years ago the Navy team was on fire, and now Monken and Army are a legitimate ten win team.
