I am so glad that our coaching staff is willing to go up against FBS schools and programs like the Ivy League for our recruits. If the student athletes and/or his parents are interested in the true education he will receive we can stack up with anyone. If they pull back the curtain on so many of the FBS programs they will see that many of the players go away with very little to show for the blood, sweat and tears they shed on the field.

+1
Great take, Boulder. I know for a fact our coaches feel like they can compete with just about any school in the country academically.
We have offered CB Joel Girtman of Westlake High in Atl. 5’11” 180. Great ball skills.
Has offers from ETSU, FIU, Morgan St.

We got 2 commits tonight. That puts us at 11 total.
One is a lock down CB from Ga per coaches’ Tweets. Whoever it is is buddies with Miles Richardson our first commit. I am guessing Girtman but I don’t know.
The second may be a S. I will guess Anthony Wilson from Spring Valley but again no confirmation yet.
In the words of Coach Conklin: “What a week.”
There have been plenty of July’s where we don’t have a commit or maybe just one. This coaching staff is getting after it. Energized is an understatement. Good things brewing, folks.

Hard to overstate what this means to our program. Not only does it get us rolling for the future, but also it validates everything our new coaches signed on to do at Wofford. The enthusiasm it must instill in our staff will be fun to watch. To come out of a summer like this and enter the fall season on such a high - Wow!

I am watching all this from afar, and I admit that I do not know, or understand the inner workings of recruiting in the modern era. So, my question is "are we recruiting better and more competitively, or just differently?" In other words were we waiting longer to make offers to see how seniors HS seasons culminated with an additional year of maturity as a strategy, and the new staff is locking up recruits they see with potential earlier and believe the rewards outweigh the risks. Or, is this just what you have to do in Div 1 FCS in 2018? I am going to ask that question of the staff when I get a chance--

Ruckus probably knows more about our recruiting than most people that are not on a staff--What do you think?

I will defer to others who know more about modern recruiting but it strikes me that with so many early Commits, our staff will have even more time to focus on the upcoming season and get an early jump on recruiting for the following season. This seems more like Proactive recruiting rather than reactive recruiting. I'm not sure that is an accurate depiction of previous years of recruiting but the results (at least this year) are night and day.

I don’t know how or why we do what we do, only what I see happening. But IMO we have been more aggressive in identifying potential recruits earlier in the process and getting them interested in us to take campus visits and attend camps to evaluate and attract them to what we have to offer. Just more aggressive resulting in earlier offers. Proactive is a good description too.
Broader geographical footprint (I Love how we are heavier in TN and now Ala.) as well. I have always thought we were missing some kids in heavy football areas that are more similar to us culturally.
The ultimate proof however will be on the field and in the classroom. But we are closing the deal quicker and more frequently than in the past. One reason is the earlier December signing date so we can no longer afford to wait until later to get commits. Also a cultural thing: kids want to know earlier where they will be. Somewhat of a risk with the Sr season to be played but sign of the times.

It is now confirmed that CB Joel Girtman from Westlake High in Atl. is our 10th verbal commit of this class. Still waiting to confirm number 11 who is a S from the midlands of SC.

It appears to be a trend of which we found the cutting edge. The only problem is that everything is non-binding, which seems to run only one way. Regardless, we are working hard for our future and offering one to some kids we believe deserve it.
Online we seem to be seeing more early commitments than in the past. For us it feels good to not have to wait until the players see what else they can get.

In Jackson's post, he indicated he was glad the process was over so he can concentrate on his Senior season. I hope all of our Commits feel the same way and stay true to their Commitment.
