Don't recall us being a National Title runner up ruckus who could you be referring to  (sarcasm)

So if we follow that same logic, did Dr. Nayef H. Samhat disrupt "core values", lose Wofford "roots"... especially with him being an outsider. Change is hard for some to embrace, some are stuck in what I call the "We have always done it this way" syndrome.

I agree with Six's opinion that we at some point need to break the "we don't like outsiders" mindset

But I also agree with those that don't think we can afford to do so at this time.

And I think we have some good, young coaches who would be suited for the long haul at Wofford

YT we don't have to clean house. We do have some great talent on our current coaching staff that may be great options to be groomed. WL in most our book has to be maintained in some form or fashion. But whomever we bring in shouldn't have to be limited in choice of style in Offensive and Defensive identity.

Hire the best candidate but change for the mere sake of change is sheer stupidity.

Yes agreed hire the best candidate insider or outsider. But this change was brought upon because of a Legendary Coach deciding to retire. So this isn't a change for the sake of change thing. Its a chance to position Wofford for growth and success in the future with the solid foundation laid by Coach Ayers.

Any idea if there’s a committee? Or is RJ interviewing one on one? And if a committee, I wonder who would be on it.

I have heard there is a search firm in place and I have heard that it’s just RJ and Samhat. So who knows.

No idea what that even means.

Danny and Harold should be involved, for starters. And Ayers. And why not Ruck.

Time is of the essence.

LD, I agree 100%. I have no idea and don’t understand much of anything coming out of WoCo these days.

Don't think we will hear anything soon. With the dead period and bowl seasons still going on. Too many coaching positions still in flux. Usually once the FBS makes their changes it trickles down to the FCS level. I'm not too much worried about recruiting. Reason being whomever Wofford chooses, next year's class will be the starting point. As for this year's class it's a matter of did they commit to Wofford, or to coach Ayers.

I'm sort of surprised that Coach Ayers' strong public endorsement of Wade Lang hasn't figured in to the discussion here more prominently

Personally, I feel that MA has earned the right to pick his successor. From years of interacting with WL, I got the impression that he was disinterested in being a HC. If WL will accept the job, then let's honor MA's wishes.

I tend to agree, Oak Grove.

I agree. At this point, I am for the best candidate who also understands our culture. Things work differently on North Church Street and the head football coach needs to understand and embrace that. Yes, we are quirky, but we've been successful and that should be respected.

I understand the "next man up" dynamic of a WL hire and if anyone is qualified to make that suggestion it is MA. It seems like a fit to me, but I'm not convinced it's the best fit, but I don't get a vote. I am fine with change and evolution in the Athletic Dept. and also on the academic side so long as Wofford doesn't lose it's sense of itself. Let Furman, Elon, High Point and others chase the idea of being a northeastern liberal arts college in the South if they want; Wofford needs to remain true to Wofford.
