VMI

Has played WCU, Citadel, and ETSU tough last three games, and guaranteed to give us all we want next week. Especially with the injury dings we have had against Chatt, this is a very dangerous game; there is talent there, and a win against us will make their season.

VMI always plays hard from start to finish no matter their record or what the scoreboard says. That being said, they are not as talented as the other teams we've faced. If we give them an inch and a prayer, it'll be a dogfight from start to finish. If we can get the offense working early and wear down their defense it'll be a pleasant day in Lexington.

That being said, let me repeat: VMI always plays hard from start to finish no matter their record or what the scoreboard says. It's going to be a dogfight.

They gave us some trouble last year defensively with the odd front which we have seen almost every week.
It will be another hard one. We need to play well to win.
BTW, VMI’s QB is the brother of Samford’s Devlin Hodges.

My prognostication for this game given how we like to play down to opponents level.....Wofford 9 VMI 7, with VMI driving in the final minute to try and kick a FG to win.

Ha Ha... 9 Lives... One could say our luck will run out, then one could argue that this team is a team to go deep, because they have the knack to find a way.

On one hand VMI has beaten no one and has to failed to score 20 points on any division one opponent. Their offense hasn't scored 20 on us in 15 years.

On another, our team collectively finds creative ways to get other teams to score 20 on us and we find ways to keep things close. It was 3-0 going into the Fourth Quarter last year. Last year I remember we didn't put Joe Newman in until late because we didn't want to risk injuring both QBs, but if we're slow out the gate again I think you have to put Newman in to spice things up.

Heck, that team was much better than this one for VMI...but I just can't have any confidence that we'll do better than we have this year against any opponent. It's frustrating.

I'm confident we'll win, but I'm also confident we'll find a way to blow it. We may be 8-1, but the difference between an 8-1 team in the past and this one is that in the past we make our big plays a possession or two earlier than we have this year, that way the game isn't in doubt in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter.

Mike Ayers brought up the 2002 game in his post-game interview on ESPN3 yesterday. He, like most of us older guys, has not forgotten.

Every week, I have thought that this is the week the offense comes together. Maybe this is the week, but I expect we stick with the fullback dive and win 17-14.

Just like I bring up being kept out of the playoffs by the Appalachian AD to anyone connected with Appie! There are some things you just never forget...or should!

He was still mad about that 60 yard draw to beat them at home clearly. That game was one of my favorite memories, we pushed their DL around all day then won in the final minute.

I kind of want Furman to lose just so Mr. Richardson can seal their fate

Right there with ya YT... Pulling for a Sammy W in 2 weeks... Also pulling for the Belhops this weekend... If they both win this weekend, then I think the winner is in in their Nov 18 game... Would like to see Hodges torch them.

VMI has been able to hang around a little on some team this year, but hasn't broken through so at this point they have very little left to lose. I expect their best shot, but so long as we play our best we shouldn't have a problem. Playing in Lexington is a concern. I've been thinking about 2002 for a few weeks now relative to this game and I'm not surprised that Coach Ayers brought it up.

This game worries me. A team that hasn't won all season with a chance to knock off the biggest Dog! They'll leave nothing in the cupboard. In addition to the 2002 debacle, you only have to think back to last year. During the Inside Wofford Football, Hauser reminded us that last year it was a 3-0 game at home until late in 3rd qtr. Any news on Detavious Wilson injury? Hinton played well but would hate to have both Horton and Wilson out. Not being critical of Goodson at all but I would like to see a lot more of Newman on Saturday. I think we will need him in the playoffs and he has really not had that many reps in the last two games. Hope the boys stay focused this week and take their A game to Lexington.

Thanks for the info STT. Glad it isn't anything major. Hope he'll be ready to go Saturday. Crazy to be so concerned about playing an 0-9 team but with all the marbles riding on this one hopefully we prepare as if we were playing Alabama!!
