Wow. Would like to know who is supposed to be in charge of clock watching for us. Let them run off 30 seconds before kicking and then a fair catch on the 4.
A gambling OC might have taken that third and one deep in our own territory to throw a Home Run pass. Never happen with us, however.

Okay, I'll say it:

We are a poorly coached football team.

Fundamentally sound, strategically incompetent.

I'm not sure we've made it out of the dorms today.

I hinted at it last week. I don't fault the players, but I think our coaches are so set in their ways that it is easy to play against us. Any high school QB can throw against our defense, and every defense knows with relative certainty what our offense will do.

If the defense plays well in the second half, we will win this one 7-6.

Hopefully we will see Newman in the second half - the offense needs a spark.

This game has been painful to watch. Our team has been so poorly focused and we routinely make bone-headed plays like fair-catching inside our own 10 or catching a kickoff and immediately running out of bounds ala the Samford game. The penalties have been drive killers for us and drive prolongers for them. I feel like I've watched enough Wofford football over the years to know that such bone-headed plays will ultimately cost us and prevent us from reaching out potential in the playoffs. I feel for whomever said before that this team has so much potential but will be unable to maximize it because of our unfocused play- such a true statement and it hurts.

We haven't scored 40 points on a team with a winning record in almost a decade. It used to be against teams like Chattanooga we'd run up and down the field.

Our offense has no coherent strategy, no memory and tries to be cute when it isn't necessary. We pull Goodson way too late when Newman has proven to be a spark. We refuse to pull our center when he's clearly off the mark against Samford, and we lose.

Mud. The answer is our OC. Period.

I tend to get hyperbolic in games like this that are close but I'm not joking when I say we need to a change at the top on offense.

The trend line in terms of our average performance has been steadily declining over the years and the only difference between this year, last year, and three mediocre years before it are the amount of turnovers we've committed, which is quite frankly outside of the coach's hands.

Our defense has the personnel to not let these dumb dink and dunk plays kill us, but rest assured our staff will stick to it.

Our problem is our offensive coordinator and our defensive philosophy.

We have run 19 plays this game. Wofford generally likes to run 60-80 plays per game. If we totally dominate the second half it is doubtful we could get much past 50. It is so obvious to those of us who are little more than casual fans that on defense we give the opposition such an easy time throwing the ball by playing way off the receivers in a zone and not pressuring the QB.
On offense we are so predictable that a team that has the ability to stuff the middle will do so and we don't seem to adjust. We can throw the ball as well as anyone. Our most expolosive player is on the bench and healthy. Lennox McAfee, as good as he is, makes very poor decisions as a punt and kickoff receiver. Twice he has picked up a kickoff as it was headed out of bounds, and today he fair catches a punt on the four.
If we have the players to be on the national stage it is about time the coaches caught up to them.

By the way. I couldn't get a radio feed and the whole halftime video has been the screwed up picture with all cameras zoomed. Anyone else?
