I know we are always worried about the music trademarks and what not but other programs seem to not care about that. Do we have anyone with the access to videos, and ability to make a MID SEASON HYPE VIDEO?...we have a bunch of great plays and Highlight worthy material to make a great Video highlighting a great first half to the season!!!!!!

These types of seasons do not come around often and I think we should celebrate it as much as possible. Just a thought......

I had to take a media class for my second degree, but I'm sure a lawyer on here could say more/better than I can:

When it comes to Youtube, if you use copyrighted music, it will only matter if it's monetized and basically a rip-off of it. If it's monetized, I think it's okay if you tag the music providers because their algorithms will work in such a way that they'll get a cut of it.

If our youtube account isn't monetized, we should be fine with music in the background because we're not profiting on it and arguably it's not the subject of the video. The only way it would get caught is if the youtube algorithms recognized the song in the video(probably not, there are so many knockoffs much worse than what we would put up that stay on) or if someone flagged the video because of the song (which is not going to happen unless we upset a random fan of another team who knows enough about the intricacies of copyright law and the will to go out of the way to do something petty).

Put more succinctly, the worst case scenario here is not "Wofford gets sued" it's "the video gets taken down" or more realistically, "youtube mutes the audio but keeps the video up." I can understand if Wofford doesn't want to muddy the waters of its name with having videos taken down (not likely to happen either way, but I understand the risk assessment), but the stakes are pretty low. Algorithms are what police youtube, not people or the law.

If you want to go all out on your own without the red tape, make your own videos and post them on an account unaffiliated with Wofford. Worst case scenario is not you getting sued, but it getting taken down. Wofford-oriented stuff doesn't get enough traffic to catch the attention of enough people/algorithms.

So the answer to your question is that other schools don't care about it either.

Music this a possibility. I feel that Wofford needs to market itself as much as possible, and these videos that highlight some of the Wofford football excellence go a long way with potential recruits, parents of recruits and players, and for the fan base in general. It is a great tool for folks outside the South Carolina region to be able to see about Wofford and what it has to display. Other programs put lots of resources into these types of videos and material, and I am not asking for some major financial commitment with it, but this would be a perfect avenue for an intern, Wofford sports marketing prospect to take on. Just a thought.......
