Terriers In The NFL

Postby CarolinaDog on Fri Sep 01, 2017 8:16 pm

Congratulations to Kasey Redfern on making the roster with the Detroit Lions. He was brought in as an extra leg as Sam Martin has been dealing with the injury bug. Redfern was in the top half of the NFL in total and net punting through 2 games in the pre-season. He has earned this roster spot and I wish him continued success.

I hope Brenton will survive another roster cut with Carolina.

Look out Wally Pip! Great for Kasey. He has done what he needed to do to make a roster. After this who knows?

By being put on the IR Bersin is evidently finished for the season. There have been some stories about his ability to run perfect routes and to help other receivers understand that as well. He had a great coach in Ricky Proehl, who quit to go back to Greensboro and work his projects as well as watch is son play at UNC. Bersin might make a great coach or administrator down the line.

Not a 100% sure about this, but by being placed on injured reserve, his contract for the year is maintained, and insures he is a vested member of the NFL pension plan, and remains under contract to the Panthers--

It depends on which type of IR Bersin has been placed on. There is the old-style, full season variety and the newer kind where players can return after eight games (I think). At the very least he does maintain his contract, but if he's on the partial season IR, then we might still see him suit up later this season. All this being said, the fact that he has hung tough in the roster discussion through all the other receivers the Panthers have brought in over the last couple years is a testament to what he's been able to accomplish and the esteem the Panthers front office holds him in.

The lesson to all is that he hung on by being well versed in every receiving position on every play, and could be substituted whenever needed. Like Joe Webb he made himself more valuable. Yesterday Alabama played regulars on its special teams, and it apparently worked.
