freshmen to watch?

Postby youngterrier on Sun Aug 27, 2017 7:29 pm

Every year we have one or two first year players that impress. Last year, it was Wilson at linebacker.

Who are the candidates this year?

Based on what I have read from articles on the website and goupstate there are two that stand out. Priester and Suggs. Priester is not huge at 6-2 and 280 but he is very quick and agile. Much like M. Brown and Vaughn. I would be very surprised if he plays only sparingly this year. I am expecting him to play a significant amount - just a tad behind the 2nd string DE guys. And maybe even work his way into the 2 deep as the season progresses. Suggs seems to be a solid, well rounded FB. He likely will not make the 2 deep but still could get PT to give Stoddard and Nelson a breather. However unlike D. Wilson last year I doubt that any of the Fr will start. There are plenty of them that have a good chance of getting PT, just not as starters. And I assume we are talking about true Fr and not R-Fr. But if R-Fr are included I would also include Mosley at QB. We know how fast Newman is but Mosley is about as fast.

Mosley may be faster than Newman.
I would add in Moore at OLB.
Watch out for Beckett, Campbell, and Lovelace in the future.

Agree about Priester, Suggs, and Moore.

Watch out for Contee too. McQuilla could be fun to watch on special teams.

I can't go without mentioning Lufkin. I like all of the Fr guys but he is at the top of the heap IMHO. Too early to tell about how he compares to Miles Brown, Horton and Vaughn but from looking at his videos from HS he looks fast, quick and relentless. Imagine Lufkin, Priester and Contee together for the next four years !! GO TERRIERS !!!!!

Ret. Ter. - agree 110% on Lufkin! Friends from Maine say the young man CAN PLAY and will make plays for the Terriers as the season evolves!
