It's early, but the Citadel has released their 2018 schedule. We will open next year with a September 1 game against the Citadel.

I really don't like starting the season against old rivals in conference games.

Amen, but it does make the preseason very real for our team, knowing they have to be ready to play from the first whistle.

The ACC just released their full 2018 schedule. I didn't see us on the sheet. Anyone got any line on our schedule for next year?

Aside from the opening the season at home against the Citadel on Sep. 1, the only other game I have seen is at Wyoming on Sep. 15.

I believe we have ETSU at home on October 20 for homecoming. The next weekend is family weekend and also a home game, not sure of the opponent.

I suspect PC owes us a game, and possibly Gardner-Webb.

It will be interesting to see if our scheduling changes with the new coach. Will we play 12 games in seasons when that is allowed (Ayers felt that 12 games + playoffs was too many)?

If Wyoming is the only FBS game for the season it will be disappointing. I could be wrong but I’m assuming it will be.

I agree with this assessment.

I'm okay with us not playing 12 games so long as the 11 games we play is a full D1 schedule.

We are really really bad at scheduling. We haven't intentionally scheduled a quality OOC opponent (in state or otherwise) in over a decade. Even then, the quality of those teams was not stupendous at the time (coastal carolina and SC State).

No pushovers here. A trip to Laramie will be fun.

Agreed. Wyoming, Gardner Webb & PC don't move the needle for me. I suspect they wouldn't really excite potential recruits either. The GW & PC games check the box for regional, but they have grown stale.

The question is whether this is poor scheduling on our part or whether we are encountering a shrinking number of teams who want to play us and our TO? My guess is it's a combination of the two.

Would like to see us think outside the box more going forward and consider playing teams that will expand our footprint and give us some gravitas if we get the W. For example: one of the Ivy's or service academies, SC State, Richmond, W & M, Coastal, Sam Houston, McNeese,...heck even some of the old SoCon teams that have moved up Appy, Ga So, & Elon....that is, if they ain't too scared :)

The schedule is as expected. Although Gardner-Webb has never been a big rival, and only us grey-haired fans remember how big the PC game used to be, the schedule has in fact been effective at getting us in the playoffs.

The PC game still counts as a D-I game, but I've heard that a large number of players have transferred out after they announced their move to the Pioneer League. This could be a trap game, and possibly the Hose's last real chance to beat us.

I have heard rumors that Charleston Southern may reappear on our schedules down the road, but post-Chadwell CSU is struggling. I would prefer an occasional OVC, CAA, or Patriot team.

The schedule is made a few years out... I like the idea of upbeat Kennesaw State and an academic FCS like Richmond or one of the Patriots... Gives u a regional game in Atlanta that helps recruiting too and a game against someone with a similar culture.

Personally I would like to see us expand the Socon borders and play teams from Virginia. Richmond, W&M, ?? We seem to have some Socon presence rotating around Atlanta and surrounds, but that's it. If we stay in that area we should work to get stronger with Kennesaw St and Jacksonville St. I wouldn't mind us playing Ga St and Charlotte. As long as the FCS playoffs are as they are now we should be able to play at least one FBS game and one game against a FCS power team and not injure our chances to make the playoffs. Furman scheduled Elon and it worked out for them.
