So do I read this correctly that the Terriers are now a lock to go to the promised land?

hopefully it won't take 40 more years nor will we have to be sustained on the manna of Spartanburg: a double chilli cheeseburger with bacon aplenty.

I hope I won't be excommunicated for preferring the Terrier Burger at Ike's with French fries.

I also have less than fond memories of the last time we had 4 qualified QB's on the roster. The coaching staff faithfully followed the command to "Judge not lest ye be judged" and refused to choose a consistent starter. Hopefully MA and WL will use the Urim and Thummin instead of the Magic 8 Ball this year when picking starters.

My only concern is that Moses was given a preview of, but not allowed to enter, the Promised Land. I fully expect MA to lead us into Frisco.

Goodson and Newman are the two serious contenders, seems to me. Goodson can do good things and is by far the most experienced, while Newman can create big plays out of small ones and thus should get a substantial number of reps.

So, Mercer ranks us behind The Citadel, Chattanooga and Samford as far as their schedule is concerned. Hmmm-maybe that game should be circled after Furman.

Does not matter what the other teams think. We usually - maybe even always - do our best when taken lightly. Actually it would be fine with me if the Terriers are picked in the pre-season to finish behind the usual three or four.

An a-plenty is good, but I'm an Ike's man as well. Food aside, when I saw them tell a family of purple clad Furmanites that "we'll serve you, but you've got to eat outside" on game day a few years back I knew it was my sort of place. You can't ignore the Spartanburger, either, but that's better after midnight after a big win.

As for our opponent, I don't care how they rank us, I just hope they end up taking about what could have been when the game is over. I will say this, though, when the Eyes Jr. college hunt made its way to Macon last spring and we toured Mercer it was not lost on me that their admissions people stated during their overview that they were part the SoCon alongside schools like Wofford, Furman and Samford. Listing Wofford first tells me that Wofford is a prime competitor for students that they are focused on being compared with.

I am definitely nervous about our opening 2 games.
I am hearing FU wants to run 100 plays a game and open it up. Defensively they will put 9 in the box and stunt us.
Mercer has given us fits and is on the rise.
We make it through those first 2, look out. We will be on the path we want. But it will be trial by fire for a our revamped OL.

Not sure it's official but it appears former Terrier WR Rob Greene has returned as our CB coach. Was an assistant at NGU and Pitt.
Smart savvy players typically make good coaches. Welcome home, Coach.

I would welcome Furman going the hurry up route. It would be an adjustment to prepare for, but it would likely take them several years to build up that kind of talent pool compared to what they've been running. If the results don't come quick, it might look a lot like the Brian Van Gorder regime in Statesboro. I have no problem watching Furman wander around in the desert for 40 years.

Surfing the Furple message boards.. States Clay wants to run ball.. I can see it with his O Line experience and implementing some of AF run game strategy.. Morehead kid and Sanders in backfield for them.. Questionable O Line for them though.. Still can't see them with an up tempo aerial display though with his background IMHO.. Go SHD!

From what I understand, the up-tempo scheme is coming from OC Drew Cronic and George Quarles who are both spread guys.
I also heard the first thing Clay told many of his OLs: lose weight. Some as much as 25-30 lbs.
IMO - a few of our guys should do the same.

Rob Greene as CB coach would be fine but what about Mance ? I must have missed something. I thought he was getting better. That is unfortunate and i feel for Mance if he is not getting better. Unfortunate for the team but mostly for Mance. [-o< [-o< [-o<

Can understand the Furples wanting to run 100 plays (especially against the SHD's). But "open it up" with a running game? A little bit of the ole oxymoron thing, imo! I get the need for them to score quickly and play the clock game against WOF. The faster they score, and the longer they hold our ground game up, the better for them. From the way their fortunes slipped last season, it doesn't appear to me they can make that happen this season. Of course every SoCon team will play lights-out against the SHD's! Come on 9-2-17!!!

Retiredterrier wrote:With Goodson, Newman, Racke and Cooper it was already a good group but with the addition of Mosley we have an even better one. Athletic, fast, poised seem to apply to all of them although the three new guys have not proven themselves yet of course. Cant wait to see them in action. Sept is just around the corner.
