Spring Practice

Spring roster is up. http://woffordterriers.com/roster.aspx?path=football
No real surprises with it. Vaughn is back (a very good thing) but Nick Ward is not. I think he graduated and is attending Sam Houston State for grad school and playing ball there to exhaust his eligibility.
I didn't realize it but we basically lost our second DL wave of Cornellier, Bryant (who had a great career and was a force in the playoffs), and Boudreaux. Lots of playing time available on DL for those on roster and incoming freshman.
I expect many recruiting starters to be limited in spring practice due to off season surgery and rehab (Patterson, McAfee, Watson, etc).
It will be critical to get OL gelled without Warhby, Miller, Jones, Way.
Sure hope we don't go live on our 2 QBs.

+1.....By-the-way, I tried to keep up with most of the new recruits in the off season, but I find myself confused (as usual), did we pick up a QB recruit? And if not, who would be the "emergency" QB this season?

Cam Racke from Northern KY/Cinci area is our incoming F QB. As of now, we will have only 3 QBs on the roster in august.

Mangum played well in the playoffs too. We definitely will need to develop depth on the DL during the spring and summer.

That should not be any problem.

Those incoming F DLs will have plenty of opportunities for PT early.
Really interested in the position battles at LG and RT on the OL. As well as at HB and FB.

Mangum, Zamary, and Curtis have experience and talent ... no slouches.

Mangum seems poised for a breakout after last season where he came on to contribute in the latter part of the season and playoffs. Zamary will help back up a NG but I don't see him as a regular in the 2 deep.
Curtis is a mystery to me. Long athletic but has never really gotten over the hump. Not sure what has kept him from breaking through other than All-SoCon talent in front of him. More a pass rusher than run stopper.

Sitting here on the edge of the mud hole listening to the big swamp lizards (its feeding time in gatorland), I'm getting real excited about the start of the SHD's spring "grind" tomorrow. If the veterans can get the new blood enthused and worked-up for another season like last year, this should be good. Hope to get up to sparkle city for at least one of the scrimmages. Here's to a productive and injury free camp! If any of you "locals" get out to the practice sessions, please let us out-of-towners know what you think....thanks!!

Hey fellow Terrier fans. If any of you bloggers got out to the scrimmage this morning, sure would like to get your take on what you saw......speed, (both sides), passing, running, play innovations, etc. Thanks!

Mudrat, apparently the first scrimmage had some pluses, especially on defense. Need some DLs and LBs to get healthy. http://woffordterriers.com/news/2017/2/ ... mmage.aspx

Chase Nelson is stepping up as the primary running back; looks like he may be tag teaming with Stoddard there.
