Here's a question: will Hendrix keep Sorrells?

If he does, it will be his death knell. Sorrells sunk Lamb and Fowler.

Love this hire!!!!!!!! Wanted Hendrix as soon as Johnson left but BL did well w recruiting etc w Ingle Martin, Jerome Felton which masked his OL DL lacking in the trenches. Eventually that got BL. You all are right and knowledgeable. Sorrells sunk both BL and BF. However, I think he was there when Hendrix was there. Hendrix OL were so freakin outstanding (beat USC, NC State, NC state..won national title made deep playoff runs etc). Just crazy good - his OL could even handle Sorrells. Lol.

With him I'll be shocked if we aren't good within two or three years at strong and tough running. He was the man when it was the original big three of FU, GSU, and App. Our OL Killed opponents.

Hope that gets going. Don't know that you all have much to worry about next year. It will take a while. Plus he may change our O completely - may bring some of Air Force O? Not sure. Interesting SoCon story to watch next year. That could take a year or two to integrate. Plus we will probably lose a few recruits this year w a coach change : that happens. So we may be a little low on new talent next year. But I'll take a short term loss to have A chance w Hendrix!!!

Look at what Air Force OL did w him. I was reading their board. They were made into a unit that could graduate five seniors and still win a lot the next year. He had ten guys ready to play well every year. They hate to see him leave. And OL (running!!!) is where we have stunk for years.

Looks like he has his O/C named as well.

If rumors are true… more to come concerning Furman's new offensive staff.

So,excited over new OC Quarles. Huge recruiting base in Tennessee. More than that he is an offensive master mind. As high school head coach he went 250-16 !!! i can't think of a single high school coach with that record. He Started 10-7 since then has gone 240-9. That's sick. I can't fathom that. 240 and 9? 74 consecutive wins in high school as coach. Then another run of 44 consecutive wins as coach. 74 high school wins in a row in Tennesssee ... That's got to be about 5 years without EVER losing. Unreal!!!

We wanted Quarles a few years back but couldn't get him then. Just confirmed - he is THE winningest coach in the country the past 10 years with a 240 - 9 record.

May take a year or two but I think Hendrix plus Quarles is the best we could have hoped for. Crazy. Those numbers just astound me

Congratulations GOFurman. Sounds like you got your Christmas present early. Sounds like lots of excitement over in TR. For now, enough Furman talk on the Wofford board. The purple discussion is starting to make me a bit queasy.

Quarles amassed a heck of a record as a high school head coach. No doubt about that. But, hiring a high school supercoach doesn't always work. Ask PC about Bobby Bentley.

Bentley wasn't a a bad coach (pretty good one even)...I'm pretty sure he left on his own terms. Seemed more like a Bentley problem more so than a former high school coach problem.

Bentley was never fully committed to PC. He refused to move to Clinnon, and commuted from Duncan.

Pretty good at Byrnes; PC, not so much. The last two seasons of Spangler PC went 10-2 (D-II playoff berth) and 7-4. Bentley took over and went 6-5 and 4-8 before leaving. Maybe that's enough to develop a proper trend, but it's enough to say things were headed down from where they'd been. As I remember it, my impression of the situation when it happened was that he was moving on because he wasn't delivering the results that were expected of him.

All that being said, Bentley's situation at PC does not doom Quarles at Furman. I was just saying that just because he was hugely successful as a high school coach doesn't necessarily mean he will dominate as a coordinator at the FCS level. Time will tell...
