It seems to me we still have what it takes to line up with anyone, and should be able to win a game or two, or more, in the playoffs.

The team that played Cid, Chatty, ETSU, WCU, Tenn Tech = yes
The team that played FU, VMI, Sanford, and Mercer = no
If we play CSU first round, we BETTER show up or Chadwell will take great delight in rubbing our noses in it.
Our defense is filthy which should keep us in most games.

Newman is a special athlete. Heard from a reliable source that he may be the fastest player ever to attend one of our prospect camps.

And we have played him a grand total of 7 or8 downs this year? I just don't get it.

I would think the concern would be injury ... use him as little as possible, to assure a healthy future. Very fun to watch ... should be special.

I just don't get the "protect him from injury" theory. Unless they think he is too small and fragile that just doesn't make sense. Goodson has made some good runs and has really learned from some mistakes, IMO. Yesterday, at least twice, he ate the ball and took a hit rather than make a poor pitch. Newman is lightning fast from what we have seen. If our offensive masterminds can figure out how to get him in some open space he would really mess with some opposing defenses. For now, at least, the future is next Saturday, and it might be fun to see a series or so of Newman at the QB position to provide a change up. Next year...

I have often thought the same.

On the other hand, a couple of the plays he has run didn't "look right". His single run against the Citadel looked like a busted play although he still got 18 yards out of it. The first option he ran yesterday looked as if he started off in the wrong direction. Maybe these were designed plays. Or it may be that he is trying too hard - which is easy to do when you only have a few plays to make something happen. Ben Widmyer's first few years were like that. Hopefully he has a good spring and is ready to compete for the starting spot next year.

Certainly the job is Goodson's to lose. Even if Butler returns, although he too has shown he can do it.

Butler doesn''t appear to be coming back.
Newman's Cid run was the same play Goodson scored on at FU, not busted.
The play yesterday was busted (not sure who went the wrong way - prolly Newman).
Goodson definitely has grown into the job. I still don't think he runs/reads the option all that great but he throws it fairly well and has learned to manage the game.
Please don't say we are protecting anybody after the Jacks debacle in preseason. Crazy.

We will be in good shape with Goodson and Newman at QB. Not sure who the heir apparent at FB is, but we have some stud running backs. Stoddard could be the man if he learns to hammer the middle like his predecessors.

Green has had a great senior year. His takeaway late vs. VMI was a thing of beauty. It looks like we are doing a better job of teaching our defense, especially D backs, to create turnovers. Keep it up.

as far as I'm concerned, Goodson has proven he is the guy. If we don't try to be too cute we would have smashed VMI more than we did (why are we throwing the ball on third and 3 inside the 10 when we averaged 6 yards a pop, for instance?)

Also I think the reason we haven't played him as much is because we don't want to be in a position where we have only one QB, especially considering how bad we've been about QB injuries this year. It's the conservative decision. He may see more snaps if we go deeper in the playoffs
