Cannot fathom us not getting in. ETSU sunk Sammy, methinks.

Glad to see a few AD's from teams that will be in the mix. Greg Seitz of Jax St probably expects to get real close to the final. It will be interesting to see whether MEAC gets two in, and how that affects Sammy. Some folks at the national scene think Sammy will still get in. A&T and Richmond took big hits yesterday.

It is interesting that one of the arguments that Samford should be in is that they beat us. It has been a long while since we were considered one of anybody's marquee wins.

Personally, I think it extremely unlikely that the committee could overlook at loss to ETSU. Sammy may be a better team that many of the other bubble teams, but is it hard to exclude 9-2 and 8-3 teams to let in a 7-4 team that lost to a second-year program.

Losing to ETSU with everything on the line is simply not defensible, as a loss by us to VMI yesterday would not have been defensible. I like Sammy and think they are good, but that is how it is. They have THREE losses in our conference (one to a team that did not cross the 50 yard line against us!), we have two.

Last year Mercer was a third year team and we almost lost to them. ETSU, while a second year team, started off with a signature win this year, and served notice that they were building a program. We handled them better than anyone, but that was somewhat of an outlier. It is hard not to look into the crystal ball and not see a pretty strong SoCon top to bottom in football. The most likely cellar dweller is VMI, and even they are building. With the turnaround at Cit the whole league appears capable of competing for the title in future years.
After the great departures from the SoCon I felt we were in trouble. However, Mercer appears to be a great addition. If we can keep ETSU straight they will be a good addition. VMI appears to be filled with class, and it's good to have a team from Virginia. Personally, I wish there were another Va or NC team in the conference, but am glad Elon is out. Elon is pitiful, and evidently has decided they are a "Yankee Outpost" in NC. Their ability to compete is non-existant, and they appear to be reaping what they sewed.

Probably a bit overzealous of a ranking for Wofford, but it is nice to see the Terriers get some respect. Maybe I just like being the underdog, but I see us as a top 15 team with upside. Let the other guys fret about rankings and our guys can just keep knocking them down.

I totally agree. Elon's level of self-importance makes them a welcome departure. If having a child currently in the process of hunting a college has taught me anything it is that culture matters a ton. We've toured six schools so far and (not ironically) the only one that has been totally eliminated was Elon because of the attitude they exuded. Eyes Jr. picked up on it without my even saying anything. I guess that stuff appeals to some, but give me a place that is quietly confident in its own vision any day over all the pretense of wishing you were something you aren't.

Does this sound familiar to anyone in the SoCon?

Great article Boulder.

I did not see Navy much this year, but their offensive numbers are staggering. We should compile and study a tape of their offense, seriously, and/or communicate/visit with their coaches; I am sure they would be helpful.

Navy runs the option the way we would dream it could be run. Yes, our coaches could learn plenty from them. They have scored more than 60 in their last two games.

Not sure where this belongs, but watching the Jacksonville St/Youngstown St game, it appears they can both be run upon by option teams. YSU ahead 20-10. On the other hand, Chatty is barely 5 minutes into the game and behind Sam Houston ST 14-0. SHS is passing all over the place and Chatty looks helpless. We need to handle the bellhops.
