I think Furman gets the win over Sammy this week...

I know its been a frustrating season for the Purples so far, but after enduring that murderous schedule and a clunker of a first half last week, I think the team circles the wagons in a big game and gets the job done at home. Sammy coming off of surviving a home game against us last week, I think is in prime position to get stung. I think a 27-24 Furman W.

Samford adjusted started in the second half of their game with Chatt. The wheels are coming off the Furple wagon.

Samford 35 Furman 14.

I'd put the spread at about 28, and I would be very surprised if Furman won.

I don't the 'dins have played a team that passes the ball as well as Samford and that will be their liability.

I think Samford has too much for Furman, but it could be close. If Furman loses, when does Fowler's seat start getting hot?

It's already flaming, believe me.

I've heard two things regarding Coach Fowler, neither of which I can personally verify:

1. His seat is already blazing hot with some vocal Furman alumni
2. His contract runs through 2017

Until last week, I'd have given the Paladins a good shot against Samford, but after their performance
against Kennesaw State at home, I have a tough time seeing them take it to Samford, even at home.

What I find funny is that the reason they fired Bobby Lamb was basically because he didn't win enough and he had finally had his first losing season 2010, a disappointing but not terrible 5-6.

Meanwhile, Bruce Fowler has been at Furman for 6 years now, and it's looking like he will have his 4th sub-.500 year (all of which will probably be worse than 5-6)

Fowler is about gone for my .02. Check the UFFP. Only question is contractual obligations. I hate it. He is a SUPER GUY. Just hasn't had the success after the 2013 SoCon title. We are the WORST OFFENSE IN THE CONFERENCE. ( about 17 points per game) FOUR YEARS RUNNING !!!!!!!!! FOUR CONSECUTIVE YEARS. :? :?

To your note about "we haven't seen a team that passes as well as Sammy." Um. Michigan State has WAY better receivers and QB talent. Granted, that Doesn't mean that MSU passes better than Sammy but the caliber of talent is far better at MSU. They scored 28 on us. Typically MSU runs. I know. But look at the stats or watch YouTube of the game. Basically MSU couldn't run as well as they hoped so they went to the air. Their coach was frustrated. Our DL and LBs held up,to the run vs MSU. Which made me really hopeful. I thought, If MSU can't run well on us who can?? Difference is my Paladins CARED then. I feared we would go 0-4 and mail it in and it appears that we have

Same as last year. After UTC last yr it appeared something changed. Same happened after Coastal this year. I really wish we could have had ETSU or VMI in September but hey, you gotta play who is in front of you. No excuses

Injuries yeah, missing our starting three LBs - one at each spot. Especially Carl Rider w 300 tackles for his career .. He was huge in our 19-14 loss to Citadel and holding Chatt to 21. And Byron Johnson too who was all over the field the first few weeks. But still, you guys are on your third QB. I know. So Eventually you gotta just win. Nut up or shut up

To me. It's all about our OL play - or lack thereof. Which I think is coaching. Forget Lamb. Forget Fowler. You recall we had Clay Hendrix? OL coach. Note the years he was at FU. Look at the correlation to our success. It's not random. Now he is at Air Force. Who just beat Navy. And has the SECOND LONGEST HOME WIN STREAK IN THE NATION. That isn't random chance. They love him. I Would KILL for him to come back as head coach.

Check this bio:

Our other long gone coach now doing OL? Robbie Caldwell at Clemson ! Both are killing it. But hey that's AA. My dream would be to get Hendrix back. Sorry for the rant

I will say if all 3 starting LBs are out tomorrow we don't stand much of a chance vs that short passing game. I know Johnson is out. If Rider is back we may have a slight shot. But yeah, we are much much better at stopping the option and running teams (see citadel and Chatt scores) than passing teams. But none of that may matter if it looks like what I last week for a half. That may have been the worst half of Furman football I have EVER witnessed. And I saw some bad football in the early 90s.

Not if we get Clay first......
Probably won't happen but that is my choice when MA rides off into the sunset.
FU picked the wrong guy IMO when it came down to Bobby and Clay when Coach Johnson retired.

I have a feeling about this game. Sammy suffers from BGLDT (Big Game Let Down Theory) and Furman gets their first W of the season.

I think everyone is underestimating how good of a coach Hatcher is. I know people don't like him and may disagree but he's made good adjustments the last 2 games

Samford up 31-14 late in the third.

Hodges with over 340 yards passing already.

But hey, "our pass defense is terrible"

Ruckus, you may be right about us taking the wrong guy w Lamb over Clay Hendrix when Bobby Johnson went to Vandy after leading us to national title game

Can't really argue that

Anyway, I think Samford put 400 passing on us and about 100 rushing. 500 total. We were missing our three starting LBs, one (Rider) w 300 career tackles. But still they threw up and down the field. I said our pass D stinks. It does. Run D is good to very good if we haven't mailed it in for the year

Both bad pass D efforts. Ours and yours. A little different though from your game vs Samford - Wofford gave 28/32 attempts for 4 TDs no picks. We gave
