OLB Markees Watts of Lancaster High will be on campus this weekend. He tore his ACL on the first play in his first game of his senior year. Good article on him and the injury. Looks like we are in the final 3 on his list with App and UNCC.

What FBS game does Wofford play in 2018? I think we open with Clemson in 2019.

I've brought this kids name up twice before and I know we were recruiting him somewhat but I can't understand why we haven't offered LB Connor Shugart from Spartanburg High School. I'm sure there is some good reason but apparently Furman, Mercer, G-W and several others think he's good enough to offer him as they have already done so. Should not lose a kid to our rivals who plays on our field on Friday nights. Interestingly, Grady Thomas, a 2017 Graduate of Spartanburg High will be starting for WCU on Saturday as a true Freshman on the OL. He was also not offered by Wofford. Just seems we are missing some good gets literally in our own back yard. I assure you, barring significant injury, Connor Shugart will be a standout in the SOCON, unless he goes FBS. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that he will be wearing the old gold and black.

How do you we haven't offered Shugart yet? I have seen evidence on social media we are very interested him. Maybe he has gotten an offer from us that has not yet been reported publically. Maybe we are waiting on a response from another guy who we ranked a tad higher.on our board. Maybe he is not that interested in staying home and attending WoCo.
Also how do you know Grady Thomas qualified academically to be admitted into Wofford? Or that he wanted to stay home?
I am not saying yea or nay on these questions, just raising issues that may perhaps explain your concerns.
There are A LOT of unknowns in the recruiting biz. Especially from us who keep our cards firmly planted to our chest.
And keep in mind the qualified pool of student athletes for us is very very small. Much smaller than WCU or GWU or Mercer even.
I think the track record of our coaches evaluating talent and getting guys who fit ALL aspects of our program and Wofford as a school is pretty darn good. Maybe we miss on Shugart and others (I know of several local players who have had success that we didn't offer) but it's hard to argue with the success we have had. Just sayin'.....

Although not related to any particular athlete, offering an athlete too early and publicly has a good likelihood of bringing him to the attention of Georgia Tech and other programs.

@ Ruckus. The only thing I know about recruiting of Shugart is I follow him on Twitter and he has announced when he's received offers. He announced Furman, Mercer and G-W. I realize there are a lot of unknowns and that our coaches do have a great track record (particularly in the last few years defensively) of picking the right guys. My main concern and reason for my post is that FURMAN! offered him! I just think this kid is going to be a heck of college player (reminds me a lot of Dan Tavani as far as instincts and toughness) and I would hate to see him as a Furple. Makes me a little nauseous actually. As far as Grady is concerned, my kids went to school with him and by all accounts (I've talked to several school officials) he was an excellent student. Almost certain academic qualifications were not an issue with Grady. From what I have learned he didn't fit our mold as the type of lineman we were looking for which is understandable. I know we recruit well and making playoffs helps. I guess I'm a homer and would love to see some of our Spa High products get to continue their careers at Wofford. I think Shiel Wood may have been the last player I can remember to play at Wofford from Spa High. If we are waiting on someone graded a tad higher than Shugart to commit, then whoever that may be should be special.

Long Snapper Ross Hammond is from Spartanburg but actually played at Dorman the cross town rival of Spartan High Vikings. He's been a solid player at a key position for us. Interesting to note too that his dad is Secretary of State of SC, Mark Hammond. His grandfather, Bill Hudson, played football at Clemson and went on to play professionally in Canada and for the San Diego Chargers (was the 34th player selected in 1957 NFL draft). His uncle, Alex Hudson, also played at Clemson and was a member of the 1981 Clemson National Championship team.
