Hard to see it any other way. The O Line strength and depth is most assuredly a strength going into the season. Returning all 5 starters across the board and 3 players with at least a start backing them up and that's not counting Mike Jones who was a starter before being injured. Got to love the trenches being such a strong point. We have to love our spot going into this camp with this group. Also gives an opportunity to build quality future depth with redshirts and what not.

I am still optimistic about this year. The key things required for a return to the playoffs this year are:
1) improved pass blocking. This, more than the QB situation, has been the weak link in our offense the last two years.
2) improved special teams
3) improved pass coverage on 3d and long.

Potentially losing Jacks is a big deal. He is the best overall QB, but Butler has more poise in the pocket and is generally a better passer. Butler or Goodson can run the team, but neither will be successful if immediately pulled from the game with each mistake. Our OC has trouble making it through the first drive without an error.

"Hunt and Peck" as an offensive strategy will not win a SoCon championship. Good teams have a strategy and try to make it work. They don't just go out and try different things to see what works.

One of the best True FR D-Linemen I have ever seen in the SoCon. When I saw who the article was about, I was going to relate the story of those 3 stops in a row during the Mercer game, but I see the DL Coach beat me to the punch. Wofford loses to Mercer last year if it wasn't for Brown on that series.

He, by himself, totally blew up 3 running plays in a row. It was an O-Line Coach's worst nightmare! Now, I will say that I don't think those stops would have happened if Mercer's All-SoCon OG hadn't broken his foot on the final play of the 1st quarter and been out for the rest of the game (and the next 6 - had surgery and made it back for his career finale though), but I'm probably WAY biased in that assessment. Although...if you look at the stats...Mercer had 70% more rushing yards in the 1st quarter than they did in the average of the remaining 3 quarters. So, something changed...but I have digressed WAY too much.

Back to Brown - AMAZING, AMAZING Player who WILL play in the NFL...could even be, I imagine, Wofford's 1st player to leave early for the League. He's THAT good...darnit!

Thanks, FuBear. Miles was a terrific wrestler in high school (Sidwell Friends, where he was a schoolmate of one of the Obama girls). He is a worker and seems to have a great temperament ... intense but focused. At this point, he reminds me some of the Fridge.

While William Perry was sometimes completely dominant in college and did some very good work in the NFL on occasion, his size was such an anomaly at the time that he didn't really have to be a great PLAYER to be that effective. NG's in excess of 300 lbs are common today, even down to the HS level (in GA, at least). Miles Brown has a much more consistent motor than the Fridge did and uses his hands much better as well - probably honed that skill in his wrestling work.

Sagarin does not rate us very highly at this point, but if we play like we are capable we can take care of that. http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm
