I'll second the hats off to Mercer- they left it on the field, and you can't ask more of any team.

My guess is that in a couple of years any win at Mercer will come to be a treasure. The have the location, the recruiting base, the fan support and evidently the money to be very good. My guess is that they will be the class of the SoCon not too long from now. This year any win at Mercer will be a good one, and they may well determine the winner of the conference.
I think we have more hurt guys. Evan Jacks could hardly walk as he came off the field after the winning TD. It looked like a bunch of guys were having trouble with their cleats on that field and it really wears on the legs. Colvin was hurting as well as a few others. That ride back will be tough on those legs, but it would have been a lot worse had we not won the game. Zo was a man tonight, and Jacks was amazing. We had some young guys really step up on both lines. Next weekend The Citadel will be willing to run through walls to beat our guys. It's on!

I am happy for the players for pulling this one out when it might have been easy to give up. They showed a lot of heart and a lot of character, more than I have admittedly got sometimes. But I am not happy with our coaches. I cannot say that they deserved to win and I don't give them any credit for it. The players won in spite of them. I hope they can do so again next week. I am not ready for THE STREAK to end yet!

I don't post often but have been a fan of this forum for many years and am very proud of our fan base and our knowledge of the game but...some of our members need to step back and re-examine why they come to TF.COM. I've noticed an increasing negativity over the last two years. We are not Clemson...don't act like it. We are Wofford!!! Anyone associated with our great institution should know what that means. We do more with less and challenge young kids to go out into the world and do great things. Sometimes it is frustrating but think about a post before submitting.

Yeah, it got pretty intense here tonight, myself definitely included. I think we all just hate to see what we perceive as these great, gutsy, talented kids being held back from their full potential by poor coaching. We love this school, this program, and the kids representing it too much to condone that.

TOs out the wazoo, 3 blocked kicks (when have we ever had that happen much less 3 times?), penalties.....it is a pure miracle we won this game and probably didn't deserve to except they made a lot of mistakes too. That's football. Our kids played hard (theirs did too). We won, now have a winning record and are undefeated in the SoCon. On to the next one.
I am still not sure how good we are. The game didn't answer any questions, only raised more. I feel like we could have won by a much bigger margin if we just do a few things better. Maybe we will.
A win is a win on the road in conference. I'll take it. Hope we didn't get even more beat up.

Nail-biting win tonight. Proud that we kept our composure and won on the road. It will take at least a day for my blood pressure to return to normal. A few observations:

1) Mercer is a much-improved team and will upset a team or two in the conference this year.
2) Evan Jacks gives us the best chance to win and should start the game. No questions about it.
3) The ESPN3 announcers were comically bad. It took one of them an entire half to learn how to pronounce our name (Wooford). Excellent preparation, gents. They also announced the Mercer OT extra point as good and didn't realize they had missed it until we started our series.
4) I applaud PK Marvin on making that last extra point. After getting two kicks blocked and badly missing another, the mental pressure was likely enormous. He is a great weapon and I feel certain he will be fine going forward.

Whose fault were the blocks? Penetration or were kicks low?

I forgot about David Marvin. Any of us who have played tournament golf know how hard it is to make that 5 footer after you have missed a few. And this last one was for all the marbles and everyone knew it. Todd tweeted that one that we thought was just missed was also blocked. Obviously someone on the Mercer staff saw something that they exploited. Regardless, think of the pressure on everyone on the field on that final kick-especially the snapper, holder and kicker. Great relief!

I too think Jacks is our best choice at QB. However, it is unrealistic to think he can play every snap; the QB takes more punishment in our offense than any other position on our team (our opponents make sure of that), yet everyone else gets some backup/fresh legs/whatever you want to call it ... certainly the QB must have it too. Our team needs that. Tonight he just did not start but played the major role. Goodson did some good things, and got us up by 7. There is an excellent chance Evan would not have had the zip to make his final game-winning play if he had played the entire night; he was exhausted and beat up as it was ... gutsy performance by the shorthaired Dogs.

Miles Brown, a FRESHMAN who made some monster plays, certainly deserves some special mention. Who else?

BTW, I expect Mercer to have a winning record in the SoCon this year.

Honestly, Mercer is an improved team this year, and their offense is efficient. only allowed one sack (to us) this year, and no interceptions by their QB. They're gonna give teams trouble.

I still think we made a lot of mistakes and should have won by more, but with that said you have to acknowledge this ^^^

Good win gang. Your guys give max effort and while I certainly am gutted at the moment being on the wrong side of this, I love watching kids play their hearts out, no matter the uniform colors they are wearing.

Hope you have a healthy and successful remainder of the season.
