They have had an off week for preparation...

We should be favored in this game but Mercer is an improving new program and we can't take them lightly. A win against us next week would likely be considered the biggest victory in their short history. We must do the usual...execute on O and avoid turnovers and slow down the pass on D. We do a decent job with those things, we win our conference opener.

It would definitely be our biggest win. No question about that.

Also, honestly, y'all were the only team last year that dominated us. The only game that we really didn't feel like we were being competitive or had an opportunity to win. I'm not sure if that will factor in, good or bad, with the kids. Since everyone is back, I hope it puts a fire in their belly.

Mercer is 2-1, having lost a close one to Tenn. Tech in their last outing. They had this week off (to get more ready for us). This is a very big away game. We cannot get where we need and want to go without winning this one.

Great opportunity against a very quality Mercer team. I like the matchup and will be a good barometer of where we are. If we are who I think we are, we come out and establish both lines of scrimmage and control the game. I really like the product we are putting on the field and I think we are growing and maturing each week. I think we take another step in the positive direction in this game. I like us to come out with a good solid tough road win and get off to a good start in the SoCon. 31-17.

I love that we have got some valuable experience with a lot of our young faces, and will be getting some key guys back going forward. I can see things coming together.

Miles Brown, in particular, has really stepped up at a crucial position. Zamary too. Any word on Speller?

Gay was in a knee brace with a compression sleeve underneath. Pure speculation as I have heard nothing, but I'd say he was done; or at least out for the next 4-6 weeks minimum.
Speller has a torn labrum. Probably waiting to see if he can return while waiting on surgery. Wouldn't be surprised if he was done too.

With his speed, does anyone think that Ellis Pace will be used this year?

He has not dressed that I have seen. I suspect a RS may be in the cards for Pace.

By pure chance a student who's a friend of our son's sat with us in those miserable conditions on Saturday night, and she happened to mention Pace to my wife because they've known each other since h.s. He was dressed Saturday and according to this student he's been dressed every game but hasn't played yet. He and Watson were standing side by side, and they both wear 24 so I had to explain to my wife how they could have the same number. Lol The roster says he's already a redshirt freshman, so I would assume he's stuck in the 5 years to play 4, no matter the sport. This person had no idea why he hadn't played, but I would suspect, speed may not be matching up with the football at least so far, but hey you never know, we could see him get in at anytime, and that is strictly my opinion not based on any information I have.

Tillery played for sure on special teams, I saw him coming out after the plays a couple of times. He starts on kickoff coverage and punt coverage, he didn't play on D though.

According to the participation list for the game in the box score, both Clemons and Stewart played, but I didn't pay much attention to them to know for sure. I know Watson also got in on SPT. I wouldn't have noticed Pace if that young lady hadn't pointed him out.

The rain wasn't hard, but it sure made watching miserable, or I'm just getting too old. So a lot of the things I would've normally paid attention to, I simply missed.
