Pre-Season 2015

Postby Ruckus on Sun Aug 09, 2015 4:24 pm

Well it's finally upon us. Players report today. Safe travels to all coming in. Conditioning test tomorrow early with first practice tomorrow afternoon. Let's DO this!!!!!
Post script - Shanesy tweeted this evening that 69 of the 95 players have already passed the conditioning test. That's a good sign - they have been working hard.

Great comments by Speller: as cohesive as they have been since he has been there. Wow.
This bodes extremely well for the season (as alluded to by T19 and TnTerrier). Sounds like they are willing to pay the price and play for each other.
This may have been the missing intangible for the past 2 years.

FYI - there were only 3 teams in the SoCon to not receive a vote in the FCS top 25 poll: Citadel, VMI, and us.
That's how much respect we have coming in to the season.
Hope this goes on the top of the locker room bulletin board.

Well, that does it for me--Not getting any respect is proof enough for me that 2015 is going to be a return to normality--In other words, we will win the SoCon, and return to the play-offs

We have always performed better with little to no expectations.

Looks like we are inside in BenJo for our first practice which stinks.
Heard WOLI interview by Hauser today with MA. Says all but 2 players (who missed time (by 1 second) on last lap) passed the conditioning test. Out of 95 that ain't bad.
We had 85 on campus at some point this summer.
Ayers mentioned Stoddard as an addition at FB that could help us quickly (in addition to Long and Nelson). Said Long has to finish plays which includes handing the ball to the ref when the whistle blows.

And away we go.......

Looks like our depth at safety is greatly diminished. Zack Cole has graduated and will obviously not be with the team, and Cole Higbie is still hurt and his return is very unlikely.

I wondered about ZC. Hate it for Higbie.
Those freshmen better get ready. I'd like to hear about their progress. We have some talent there. Aside from Tillery and Watson who are obvious talents, I am interested in Hemmings: a big fast kid who was not on a lot radar screens in recruiting process. Then there's Massey and Loudermilk too.

Yeah, too bad about Higbie.

Shouldn't Jamario Williams be a factor too, since this is his third year on the team and he was well regarded as a high school player? Would it make sense to move a CB over too, such as Jesse Williams?

Speller says he was pleased with the first day's practice, and is already impressed with some of the freshmen.

Jamario Williams has moved from safety to corner, back to safety, then back to corner again in his time at Wofford. There are currently no plans to move him or any other corner to safety, and for sure not Jesse. Let's just say there's been a bit of a learning curve for Jamario, but he did show signs of improvement in the spring. He's still probably another year away from being a consistent contributor.

One or two of the young guys have to step up including Nick Ward, who had a good spring. And let's all hope Jaleel Green stays healthy all year.

And....the pads aren't on yet...so we'll see how it's going after Friday.

Everybody has a plan until they get hit in the mouth. Pads and contact seperate the men from the boys.
Rivera looked in the spring that he was starting the learning curve.

Preach Ruckus! You never know how a guy will react when he gets his jaw jacked in his first couple of full pads practices in D1 football...
