No, there is no way there are 45 1-AA teams than us. Have you ever seen 1-AA ball outside the SoCon? There are very few conferences that stack up, and I honestly believe Wofford could have won several of the other conferences last year. Howver, playing in the SoCon, it is going to be a fight every week to try and come out on top.

Um, the SoCon has been very top-heavy if you look at GPI... even after producing the national champ last year:

1. Appalachian St (1.00)
4. Furman (5.00)
9. Ga Southern (10.44)
27. W Carolina (27.00)
39T. Wofford (33.89)
45. Chattanooga (37.78 )
53. The Citadel (43.78 )
74. Elon (57.00)

Using the Poll... better win in bold

2006:
Sept. 2 T31. South Carolina State
Sept. 9 18. COASTAL CAROLINA
Sept. 16 at South Carolina
Sept. 23 OPEN
Sept. 30 5. FURMAN
Oct. 7 NR THE CITADEL (HC)
Oct. 14 at 1. Appalachian State
Oct. 21 at NR Elon
Oct. 28 40. WESTERN CAROLINA
Nov. 4 at 13. Georgia Southern
Nov. 11 NR CHATTANOOGA
Nov. 18 at NR Gardner-Webb

Win four of the remaining seven and you're probably in the playoffs. Start off by beating SCSU... then Coastal...

I get to vote in the AGS poll, and to be honest, I didn't rank us. I expect the Terriers to end the season ranked, but coming off of last season's poor ending, the shutout to Western, domination by Furman (although our back-ups beat up on their back-ups, and the near collapse at Gardner-Webb, I didn't feel like they were ready for the top 25 yet.

I believe in earning your respect on the field. Of course, polls are simply collective opinions anyway (i.e. they mean nada), but until we win a few games, we don't deserve a ranking. I would prefer working our way up the polls and hopefully sneaking up on a few people. Wofford historically gets little respect anyway in the collective wisdom of pollsters and playoff committees (as opposed to Appy, FU, and GaSo who have traditionally won in the SoCon and on the national stage). Let's get through those 1st four games and see where we are.

I used to vote on the AGS poll, but don't anymore for whatever that's worth, but in my 15 years of following Terrier football the one thing I have noticed always holds true is that season's with high initial expectations are disappointments and ones with low initial expectations always exceed. Based off that, and the fact that Coach Ayers loves to play up the underdog/no respect angle, I am perfectly happy not being ranked.

Besides, Wofford will have to win or almost win the SoCon to get in because 8-3 would be a toss up for an at-large and 9-2 would mean only one loss besides the assumed thrashing by South Carolina.

The only thing that gets you ranked in the preseason polls is to consistently finish the season ranked. Wofford had some good runs in 02,03,& 04---Not long enough to get ranked after a drop-off last year---I'm not sure if its my generally optimistic nature, but if the offensive line has some young guys ready to execute, I think we could be very good---But hell, you just never know for sure until they get out there and play---App State is a good example----The fans were ready to fire Jerry Moore after 04---Now they think he is the reincarnation of Bear Bryant---Go figure----
