New Terriers

So, we signed 12 players today. Just thought I would get everyone's thoughts on how we did overall. As a former player, I am always extrememly interested on how the program continues to grow. I really like how the overall size of players has increased. I am glad to see that we have some decent size at LB. We picked up some kids that can help on offense, but I feel like we need more help on the defensive side of the ball, mostly in the secondary. I think we are more undersized at this position than any other posotion on the field. I was hoping to see a couple of more defensive secondary guys signed today. Overall, I think we had a pretty good signing class. I would give the Terries a B-, B for what we brought into the program. Let's just all hope and pray they come in ready to play and are able to contribute. Just my thoughts.

It is interesting that we have a growing number of Florida players. We also have NO players from Ohio or Kentucky.

In fact, only one player is from outside the South.

I don't know if it means anything, but the pattern is quite different than it has been in the past.

I also noticed the lack of Ohio signees. It's been a long time since that's been the case. 18 is also a big class compared to most years. I wonder if there will be a few late signees?

Coach Ayers indicated 2 more recruits are visiting this weekend - and he really likes them.
Would be great to land a big, speedy running back. Any news on Jeremy Marshall's return for a 5th year?

Safety Andrew Gehring from Southern Nash comes from a very tough defensive team and should be a good addition. I know he picked one deep in the 4th qtr to wrap up the game in the quarterfinals against us, Grays Creek. 6'2" 180 is not bad size for a kid not even to his Freshmam year.

I'm a little bit more hopeful (especially if we get two more guys this weekend). As far as the secondary goes, it seems last year's class was really heavy in DBs with Shelton, Wylie, Reaves, Turner, and Williams. Morever we have young 'uns in Bratcher, Roseboro, and Hobson. We have gone heavy on DEs in recent classes, too, so the signing of only a NG doesn't really bother me. A main problem last year was simply warm bodies at LB, so this class will help with 3 (or 4 if Thomas comes in as well). With the number we have in this class, we can afford to RS a couple unlike last year. (Maybe McCrimon and Thomas--just thinking aloud.) I've been concerned in recent classes about getting only a few OLs. This year, I'm happy because we have at least 2 OTs, a good OG (in Wilken) and one that can go either way (in Boyd). Combined with last year's 2 interior OL, I think we have a good OL base for the next several years.

My main concern, and I'm probably sounding like a broken record now, is depth at RB. I'm not down on the talent we've brought in with Burris and Johnson (I'm pretty jazzed about them), but you can't have enough RBs if you run the option. GA Southern signed 5 this year by my count. El Cid got 4  . I just think we need a few more RBs down the road simply by the nature of the offense we run. Other than lack of depth in this and recent RB classes, I'm quite happy.
