The actual number is $1.4 million for the JET per my conversation with the development office yesterday.

It wouldn't be such a sore spot with me if Wofford played a non Division 1 team every once and awhile, but it seems as those teams are scheduled every other year. It's ridiculous and there is no defense.

Since the game doesnt count toward the playoffs, I would rather Wofford play a second D-1 team to get more money so that we can play a home and home with an FCS team outside of the Big South. Why would any OVC or CAA team come to Wofford to play without an expected return visit?

It cant be cost prohibitive to take a bus to Virginia to play a game and spend one night there. Anyone know the approximate cost?

we have 8 conference games(4 home-4 away)---We have a home and home with an FCS team(now we are in the midst of that contract with Chas Southern)---Some years that gives us a home game, this year it does not. We have a need to get a money game each year. This year its at Ohio--So, with 4 home conference games, and away game against an FCS team, we need to have a home game to insure that we have a minimum of 5 home games; ie, a game with a NAIA school, which I think is a good thing in light of where we need to get this year. Ohio is a very good program, but probably not on a par with Wisc or South Fl from the Big Ten and Big East. We have dominated Chas Southern(but it is never assured that we always will), and then to have a game against Union before our bye week and Furman, is just what we need to begin 2010. Playing a CAA team, or Ivy League team, or anyone else that could be considered a play-off team is probably not achievable for us to get at home, even if it was desirable, which I do not think it is---I agree with the philosophy that the SoCon is a very tough venue. Even the FBS boys are very careful not to load up there schedule. If you look at Texas, you will find that after the Big 12, they will play one top echelon team like a Ohio State, but the rest of their out of conference schedule consists of teams that are decidedly not in their league, and it is always at home.

A few years back, we played Coastal Carolina on the road. Was this a one and done deal, or are we supposed to get a return game with them at home?

We played Coastal at Gibbs Stadium and lost on September 9, 2006. The score was 41-38. Until this year against Samford, this game was the last time we wore all black.

The game created some bad blood between Ayers and the head coach at CCU. we have not played them since, nor do we plan to.

My bad. For the life of me, I thought we played them on the road. I can't remember what the bad blood between coaches entailed. Care to shed light on that?

Ruckus nailed it.....their head coach, David Bennett, was yelling a bunch of stuff across the field at Ayers and our assistants. I remember hearing that the postgame handshake was brief, yet tense. I think he took some objections to the way our linemen blocked.

Oh, do I know. I hear his local talk show on the Myrtle Beach ESPN radio station, and I get that much just from listening to him. I just didn't know if there was something more specific to the situation.

Some CCU people were sittting on the home side of Gibbes with some WoCo faithful not too far from us during that game. They weren't too happy about how we/I responded to his ranting and raving on the sideline. I bet his tone changed a little by the time he got to midfield though. Still hate that game: we ran the ball all over them but couldn't stop Thigpen. We had over 400 yds rushing.
Bennett is a PC grad by the way.

My sentiments exactly.
