11th game?

Postby woffordgrad94 on Tue Jan 26, 2010 2:11 pm

Any update on our search for an 11th game for this fall? I strongly suspect we are going after a home game, since we only have 4 home games lined up so far, but that our small stadium is making it difficult to get a good FCS team to come here. But if push comes to shove, I would rather get a non-scholorship d-1 team in like Davidson than play some D-2 school. And please don't bring Georgetown, KY back down here! But I also don't want to have to play another road game, especially not against an FCS school that we would likely lose to, because that would also hurt our playoff chances.

It will not be Davidson. They have no plans to play anybody in the SoCon after what Elon did to them last year. I think the chances of it being a FCS school or slim and none. We are looking for anybody right now.

Any winnable home game is fine with me--Savannah State, Campbell, Tusculum, PC, even Georgetown College. Remember, we only won three games last year. At this point and with this team, notching a victory against anybody will be of more benefit than a quality loss.

Campbell? They are in Davidson's conference. But I have a feeling that you are right and that no FCS team, scholly or non-scholly, will be lined up. We have no desire to play Gardner-Webb again, and we probably don't want to add a second Big South team anyway. We will end up with a non d-1 program.

I would rather have a FCS away game than bring in a D2. I think this year we will have the experience to deal with it better. Also, I would love to see an Ivy League team come in as well, and think we could be attractive to one....Harvard, Dartmouth, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia...come on down!

Is there no division 1 money making game this year. Those were always exciting for the players.

Exciting for the fans too. We flew to Wisconsin and loved it. I would like to see us add one like it.

Also something recruits look for. All want that chance to play on the big stage, if not just once or twice a year.

Are you suggesting we only play 4 home games this year?

I do not understand all the financial implications of that, but would much prefer another away game against a big time opponent (esp. if it can be later in the year) over a D2 or NAIA opponent at home; it would be better for the program, fans and players. Another option, referred to above, is an Ivy or similar relatively big-name opponent at home.

l Iove the idea. A Cornell /Woffy match up would be great.

I like Newberry. Close by and they would actually bring some fans. But no return trip to their place.
