Like our schedule a few years ago, this one would set up a lot nicer if the games were in reverse. Order matters, but in the end we have to play them all anyway so might as well hit the ground running. Whoever wins the QB battle can start their own legend early if they navigate September well.

Zero patsies on this schedule. The good news is we will have a settled scheme and experienced two deep, and should thus be ready to go right out of the box. Also like that games 2 and 3 are at home and the extra week off after Oct. 17. Bring it on!

This schedule is heavy on the front end but the opponents (sans Clemson) are the exact same as last year. What will be interesting is gauging how good Furman, Citadel, and Mercer (who has former Furman OC Drew Cronic taking over as head coach) are before that Demon we haven't exorcised, Samford.

There will be less growing pains this year, even though we're going to have a new QB. Though the seniors were not recruited by Conklin, the juniors had the option of de-committing and going elsewhere. This is pretty much Conklin's team. The defense is fully set, but this will be the first year we will seriously try to throw the ball in ways CJC imagined. With respect to Joe Newman/Moseley (assuming the latter does transfer), he was a running QB that could throw, not a throwing QB who can run (which is how I'd describe our current QBs).

Everyone else on offense (OL, RB, WR, TE) is settled into their position. They're not going to get as many, if any, new concepts at them. QB will be the key, as they'll be expected to execute at a higher level through the air than Joe; throwing more and more reliably.

We also have the chance to be the second SoCon team to cost Will Muschamp his job.

Despite our abysmal record at Furman over the years, I am excited to be there when we unleash the SHDs for this one. Can't wait to see Mangum and Horton return to action!

OK, I have this all figured out. Bring Luke Keunchley to Wofford to help out with the LB's for a year. He can coach 6 days a week for Wofford and work for the Panthers both on air and PR at games for the year as he moves on to either broadcasting or coaching. It's a perfect setup for him-and us!!
