Samford Game

Per Coach Conklin: Mikel Horton gone for season. Having shoulder surgery. Thad magnum knee injury in SCSU game. Coach said they are preparing to lose him for the season as well. Damn!!! Tanner Barnes, recruited as LB, has been moved to DL. All 215lbs of him. He will back up Robbie Armstrong at RDE. Man, some young guys are going to get some playing time this season for sure! Right now for DL, it looks like 2-deep will have Fr, So, Sr starting and backups will be Jr, R-Fr, R-Fr. Very thin with experience. Our big starting DL is now 230lbs, 280lbs, 230lbs across. Backups are 280, 285, 215. MANY are going to have to STEP UP!!!

Ugh. Bad loss + injury bug. That’s not the start any of us were hoping for. They say adversity reveals character, so I guess we will see what we are made of, albeit sooner than any of us hoped for. https://www.goupstate.com/sports/20190909/injuries-hit-wofford-defensive-line

What do we know about Sammy, other than the fact that they don’t have Hodge’s for what would’ve felt like the 10th year in a row ?

Samford is 0-2 with losses to Youngstown State and Tenn Tech. At one point they were up by 23 in the 2nd half against TTU, but ended up losing in double overtime 59-58. They're still slinging the ball all over the place. Not sure what to take from the TTU game. That's not great competition, and neither team can be proud of their D.

We should definitely score some points if we have any idea what we're doing on offense. I'm not sure how great their offense is against a tougher D. But we'll probably need to get pressure on the QB, and that may be tough with our injuries. They're giving up almost 5 yds/rush in those 2 games.

The good news is that Samford's defense may keep us in it.

Also, this DL size is on par with prior terrier defensive lines. Not great, but we will sacrifice size for speed IMO

that stinks for Horton and esp Mangum.. question - I read the article: "Safety Strawter and LB Brown - out indefinite" - were safety Strawter and Brown LB starters too or?

Bud, every time we have an injury you ask this question. You can answer this question by either looking at game notes or reading the aforementioned article which lists them as special teams starters.

I don't mind answering questions by other fans but this is a pattern.

YT, you know I am about as objective a Furman fan as their is. Sure, I read the article and it mentioned special teams but I didn't know if they were on two-deep and it can be a pain to figure that out. once your website posts the Samford notes (as they have) I don't know where to get prior game notes?

Not to be a pain, but what's wrong with a 'pattern' ? We all talk football every week.. that's a pattern. We all discuss what went right and wrong every week - that's a pattern. I don't understand the error in a 'pattern'. Wofford winning by running option and pushing people around is probably a 'pattern' you like :D

Heck, to give you all credit - i KNOW you all know better than what I can get off the internet - if I trusted the internet your own game notes list Mangum as the starter this week ! Click the link above - Mangum is playing! Even I know that's not right. So you see why I ask. I wouldn't mind you asking me the same because fans like you and I will know the game notes aren't 100%.

another funny in the game notes that threw me off - look at your two deep .. Lufkin on DL is listed as 180 lbs. I was shocked. then I had to go find him on roster and found 280 lbs :D -you see my point. You guys know better than the interwebs

thanks - no worries

I will go along with GF in saying that he is about the best Furman fan of all. I have even seen him catch flak on their board for being a Wofford apologist.

lol at above.. good stuff - it's all fun and games until the week we play each other !

interested in you all's game this week. honestly, i wouldn't wish hurt on any kid... but I think Samford is least equipped to hit you in the middle of your DL. it's just not what they do

Tom ‘n Todd talkin’. https://omny.fm/shows/from-the-newsroom ... ounce-back

Upside: we have some depth and talent at LB and DB that should help our DL stay fresh as they defend Samford. And our O will come out with something to prove in the run department.

Our season isn't over yet. It was only one game. A lot can still happen. We just have to take it a game at a time.

YT I feel the same. And to go one step further if we do not get the W against Sam then I will still be a Terrier fan. And if our season at the end of the year is a bad one then I will still be a Terrier fan. Although if that happens I will not be a happy Terrier fan. Just a very disappointed one. I am in it for the long haul. GO TERRIERS !!!!

Seems unusually quiet on the board...IT"S GAME DAY vs SAMMY!
Need a big effort tonight to earn the first conference win and forget the fiasco 2 weeks ago. Seniors have extra motivation to taste victory vs. the Bulldogs.
