Mark Hauser

Just saw this. Mark has been a part of Wofford Athletics for as long as I can remember and is one of the best play-by-play guys at our level. Seems like Wofford/IMG are not nearly as appreciative of what he has done for the athletic program as the fans are.

Wish him the best. Hauser has been the voice of the Terriers for so long. What will we do without him ? Very disappointing to say the least ! Plus I do not understand how this happened. Thanks 20T15 for the info

We have been so fortunate to have someone of Mark’s caliber 100% in our corner for so long. He has done an excellent job. Hopefully this is not the last word and a way will be found to keep him with us.

The message from Mark was obviously heartfelt and beautifully done. For Wofford I cannot imagine letting him go. For us it is frightening to think that we will have someone other than Hauser and Henson. It is probably just about numbers. It is easy to track numbers in this digital age, and one cannot imagine how Wofford can pull enough to justify the pay. Maybe we have to get more of a volunteer P by P man, but Hauser is a true pro. I have always wondered how we could justify having him. Surely there is someway Wofford can figure this out. If I knew anyone at IMG Sports I would be on the phone.

This is a huge disappointment to all Wofford fans. Mark is a phenomenal talent and an even better guy. What a change this fall will be without Coach Ayers and Mark.

I suppose compensation is always an issue and maybe the continued transition from radio/Internet radio to ESPN3 and now ESPN+ cut the listenership to a point that ads could not recoup the cost. If that's the case then it is truly another case of technological advances hurting the finished product after implementation.

As an out of town fan of Wofford athletics I have relied heavily on Mark Hauser for years and I genuinely thank him for everything he has done to bring the games to me and wish him all the best going forward in wherever his career takes him and his family.

Wofford seems to be changing in so many ways these days, and not all for the better IMO. To hear Mark say that he has not heard one word from Wofford or the Sports Administration is disappointing to say the least and could infer that perhaps they are the ones calling the shots on this (instead of IMG). Seems as though Samhat and RJ have their own vision for Wofford/Wofford Athletics and are doing what they can to make it happen one change at a time.

eh, we're getting into a territory of speculation here that's not reflected in public knowledge.

Really good guy...a pleasure to listen to, and a positive information base. As a wise person once said, "nothing is as sure as change." This too shall pass, and Wofford will press on into the future regardless.....happy trails!

The public information released by Hauser pretty clearly shows he was terminated/nonrenewed without even an email from anyone in the athletic office. I’d say that is credible evidence (unless one believes Hauser to be leas than truthful) of a change in culture at WoCo, or at least a change in how many of us perceive Wofford to be (or once was). Perhaps it is debatable that such evidence is merely ancedotal but at a minimum it is much different than many of us would expect for such a long time and appreciated affiliate of our school much less the public media face of our athletic department.
It is not the non renewal that bothers me the most (although it bothers me because Hauser is darn good at what he does). Things change, money is tight. But many of us expect a little more personal connection and touch than what Hauser reports he received. I am hoping he receives some type of communication and thanks. Not good optics for our school.

Hauser has been contemplating leaving for at least a year (his wife moved out to Oregon for a new position as a teacher I think).

Again, there's more going on here than people think. Also, it's not like Hauser worked for Wofford directly. I'm fairly certain he was a contractor of sorts so again, this is probably more complicated than the talking point of "well the administration hates everything good about Wofford"

Whenever a change happens that people don't like, this is the first thing that's said. President Samhat, Coach Johnson etc have been in their positions for half a decade now (or more). A better explanation is that change happens over the course of time, not ~the administration is out to ruin everything~

because if they wanted to ruin things as minute as who the color commentators are, they would have done it a long time ago.

But still, that won't stop people from complaining and pointing fingers because that's in vogue.

Whatever the reason (again not the issue that I am concerned about), it was handled poorly. Bad optics. Mishandled and reflects poorly on Wofford.
By the way I am hearing it is over $2,000. That can be raised in one or 2 phone calls. Ridiculous.

Shanesy lays it on the line.

This is just too bad. Very sad news to get. Mark Hauser is one of the best announcers I’ve heard anywhere. It’s a shame we will no longer have him, whatever the reason. Good luck in future endeavors, Mark.

Seems like Mark is laying this at the feet of the AD, but why wouldn’t he be looking directly to IMG for the bump in salary and why wouldn’t they pay it? No slight to anyone, but it seems to me that we have a hard enough time paying coaches what they are truly worth, much less our wealthier partners’ employees. Definitely a lose-lose-lose situation for him, the school and the fans. Mark has been a great ambassador for the school. We have all lived and died so many great wins, crushing losses and memorable moments through his calls as the voice of Terriers and he will always be a part of the family. Sad day.

Shanesy's article bums me out about this even more than I already was. I would have to assume that we are starting to see the early phases of the inevitable revenue squeeze that will come if (when) the Panthers' new ownership relocates their camp.
