Coach Them Up.........Signing day.......

All Right Men, NSD is over, and we have recruits in fold. Now is the time to begin formulating our 2-deep rosters and identifying positions of concern, so we can plug the new guys in where needed. We have done a great job on this board getting us this far into the 2010 campaign so let's not let-up now.
I did hear that the "old school" strength and conditioning regimen is a hit with the returnees, separating the men from the boys, so to speak. Toughies from Softies ie; will be's from wannabee's. A butt-kicking is one thing but getting your butt kicked because you are not sufficiently tough enough is embarrassing to all involved.

Toughness is a mindset. Physical play is bred from confidence and being strong. Until last year, we have always been tough and physical even if a little small and a step slow. We hit people in the mouth and didn't let up even if we were losing. Several games last year I thought we let up/gave up/gave in (FU, Elon, Samford, UTC). We did not play with physical or mental toughness. We looked weak, tired, and even timid at times. I don't know what we did differently but whatever it was didn't work. I am not sure what "old school" means but if it means we will get back to a physical strong hit-you-in-the-mouth brand of football, I am all for it. I know there are many new training methods but good football is not rocket science. Strong shoulders, chest, arms, back, butt and legs are essential. The stronger we are, the more confident we will play, the more confident we play, the more physical we will be, and the more physical we are the more we will win (and the better we will play late in the game).
A good s and c coach is essential. But as I have said before, a poor one is worse than none at all.

Amen, Ruck ! I hope all of these new recruits will hit the weights hard, too, so they hit the ground running in August and push our current guys. I'm particularly anxious to see some swagger back on D. When we were at our best, our defense flat took the ball away from teams ! I'm ready for some more of that. =P~ =P~ =P~

Does anyone know what we can do with regard to sending the new recruits work-out routines, etc ?

From memory, I received my off-season workout regimen about one month after signing with the Terriers. That was two strength coaches ago. With Teachey and Johnson handling the strength and conditioning, have they had time to prepare a workout and instructional DVD for our signees? Knowing Teachey and his micro managing capabilities, I'm confident he has something in store for the youngsters. I can't imagine him not being prepared. For instance, Teachey demands that pre-snap, our DL is keying either the VERY tip of the football or looking for the initial contraction of the opposing offensive lineman's calf muscle to improve the reaction time of our DL. He, along with the rest of the staff, are relentless taskmasters.

Can recruits visit on their own after they sign but before they enroll. For example, can the local recruits come over and lift? Conversely, can the coaches visit players again at their homes before they enroll?

I think there is a dead period after NSD but it is fairly short. After that it is open but I think they have to enroll to participate in any organized team activities. Coaches can communicate however.
